Wilton Reads: The Buddha in the Attic with Joanna Ecke

Wilton Library’s Fall 2012 selection for our community reads program, Wilton Reads, is Julie Otsuka’s latest work, The Buddha in the Attic, a gorgeous novel by the celebrated author of When the Emperor Was Divine that tells the story of a group of young women brought from Japan to San Francisco as “picture brides” nearly a century ago. Julie Otsuka has written a spellbinding novel about identity and loyalty, and what it means to be an American in uncertain times. Ms.Otsuka will be at Wilton Library to discuss her work on October 21st, at 4:00pm. . Join Joanna Ecke, a graduate of Smith College with a doctorate in literature from Duke University, for a daytime discussion of this work prior to Julie Otsuka’s appearance on October 21.
