Poetry in Motion: Bridging the Gap
Now through November 7
Teens in grades 7 – 12 are invited to submit original poetry which will culminate in a two-performance poetry event in March 2011 centered on the theme of examining and understanding differences and the ways to bring them together. Topics can focus on age, gender, socio-economic, technological, religious, cultural, ethnicity and more. New Ways to Connect with Customers: Twitter – Mary Anne Mendola Franco
Tuesday, October 26, 8-9:30 am
A series of programs to acquaint and update community businesses with the latest technology to promote their business is being offered through joint sponsorship by the the Wilton Chamber of Commerce and the Wilton Library. Each program will feature a speaker for approximately one hour, followed by a Q&A.
In today’s program, Mary Anne Mendola Franco of the Wilton Library will show you how to tweet to let the followers of your business know what’s happening with it – new ideas, new projects, new ideas, whatever’s interesting – in this demonstration-style class. And learn how to follow businesses and people you care about, world events and local events.
Additional sessions:
Coffee, tea, and breakfast pastries will be provided. To promote networking and discussion among participants, refreshments will continue to be available until 10 am The fee for the programs is $10 separately, or $50 for the package of seven. Wonderful Ones and Twos with Caregivers
Tuesday, October 26, 10:15-10:45 am
This program is a sharing time for 1 and 2 year olds and their caregivers. The emphasis is on books, with some songs and puzzles. 8-week program. No registration is required.

Look, Listen and Learn
Tuesday, October 26, 11-11:30 am
For 3 and 4 years olds with parent/caregiver. By interacting with stories, singing songs and acting out finger plays and rhymes, children in this program gain pre-reading skills and learn how to participate in a group setting. 8-week program. No registration is required.

Senior Center Book Discussion
Tuesday, October 26 , 11-noon
Maureen Canary leads a discussion of Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. Group meets 4th Tuesday of each month through May (except December). Literary Littles
Tuesday, October 26, 2:15-3 pm
For independent listeners ages 4-6 years. Story time that provides children with experiences that enrich early literacy. No registration is required. 8-week program.

Wilton Up Close—Photo/Writing Experience
Tuesday, 6-7:30 pm
REGISTRATION FULL! A photography and writing project for up to 25 students in grades 8 through 12 which will take place over two months for a total of approximately 16 hours on five different dates.
The dates are:
- 9/28 – Kick Off
- 10/5 – Photo/Writing
- 10/19 – Photo/Writing
- 10/26 – Photo/Writing
- 11/10 – Selection of Photos
The students will be working with professional and award winning photographer, Daryl Hawk. He will help them get to the heart of the program – to unplug, slow down and explore the everyday landscape. To open their minds to discover what is right at their finger tips but see it in a way they have never seen before. They will capture these moments and pictures in photographs and writing. The project will conclude with a photographic and journalistic exhibit to share with the community, during Jan./Feb.
There will be a charge of $40. per student to cover the cost of framing three photographs for each student. The sign-up deadline is Friday Sept. 17th.

New Perspectives Documentary Film Series:
Ali’s 65!

Honoring the boxer and the man, this unique documentary defines Ali’s impact on society and culture as he celebrates his 65th birthday. Narrated by Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Jeffrey Wright, this inspiring special examines how one man, at a difficult time in our nation’s history, decided to risk everything, and by doing so, became the most popular sports icon on the face of the planet. Moderator Megan Smith-Harris, local documentary filmmaker, will have a discussion and Q&A with Jeff Reilly, Editor. Registration recommended.
