Poetry in Motion: Bridging the Gap
Now through November 7
Teens in grades 7 – 12 are invited to submit original poetry which will culminate in a two-performance poetry event in March 2011 centered on the theme of examining and understanding differences and the ways to bring them together. Topics can focus on age, gender, socio-economic, technological, religious, cultural, ethnicity and more. Program is sponsored by Wilton Library with private funding from generous donors.

ESL Classes
Mondays and Wednesdays, September 20 through December 22, 9:30–11:30 am
No session Monday, October 11.
Twice-weekly classes in English as a Second Language will be presented on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9/20 – 12/22 at the Wilton Library by Westport Continuing Education, for both Wilton residents and those in surrounding communities. The class is for students at the intermediate to advanced level. Class size is limited and will be determined by Placement Testing. This test to enter the class will be conducted on September 13 from 10 – noon at the library. No registration is necessary to take the test – just walk in.
Note: Placement testing will also be held on Monday, September 13 and Thursday, September 16 from 7 – 9 p.m. at Westport Continuing Education, Staples High School, 70 North Ave, Westport.

Wonderful Ones and Twos with Caregivers

This program is a sharing time for 1 and 2 year olds and their caregivers. The emphasis is on books, with some songs and puzzles. 8-week program. Advance registration is required.

Terrific Tales for Twos and Threes
Wednesday, October 27, 11-11:30 am
Join Wilton Library for 2 and 3-year old story time. Children and their caregivers will sing songs, listen to stories, and enjoy playtime together while building literacy and social skills. No registration. 8-week program. Advance registration is required.

Route 7 Transportation and Land Use Study Access
Management Stakeholder Meeting
Wednesday, October 27, noon-8 pm
As part of the broader Route 7 Corridor Study, the South Western Regional Planning Agency is studying driveways and other access points along Route 7 in Wilton in an effort to improve safety, traffic flow and access to businesses and homes. Known as “Access Management†, this type of plan aims to improve how driveways interface with Route 7. The Planning Agency would like your input and participation in this process as they create a Curb-Cut and Access Management Plan for this heavily-traveled roadway. Please come by, stay as long as you like, and provide your input as they work on drafting preliminary curb-cut plan concepts. Check the schedule for the day and try to attend during the discussion of the segment that interests you the most. Or attend the end of the workshop at 6:30 PM for an overview of the project and a discussion of the findings so far and the next steps in the process.
