WELCOME TO SHELBYVILLE
Saturday, June 18, 7:30-9:30 pm
A gripping documentary on what it means for a community to be American. The town of African-American and white residents are challenged with integrating the old guard with newer Latinos and an influx of Muslim-faith Somali refugees. WELCOME TO SHELBYVILLE explores immigrant integration and the interplay between race, religion and identity. Q & A follows the film, led by Megan Smith-Harris with director/producer Kim A. Snyder. Executive produced by BeCause Foundation in association with Active Voice. The film is being shown in conjunction with World Refugee Day, June 20th. This year’s Day marks the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Refugee Agency, which has worked to support the plight of more than 40 million uprooted people around the world. Registration recommended.
