Registration for the Launch of Wilton Up Close 2011 Teen Photography Project
Monday, August 15 through Tuesday, September 6.
Wilton Up Close 2011 is a Wilton Library project for students in grades 8-12. The students will work with Daryl Hawk, renowned photographer, who will teach them about photographing their surroundings. The heart of the program is to try and unplug, slow down and truly observe the everyday landscape. Students will also be asked to write reflections about their photographs and experience. The project will conclude with an exhibit in the main gallery of the Library in February 2012.
The dates are as follows:
- 9/13-Wilton Town Center Kick Off Meeting/Photo/Writing, 4-6:30 pm, (Rain date 9/14);
- 9/27-Weir Farm Photo/Writing, 4-6 pm, (Rain date 10/4);
- 10/11-Millstone Farm Photo/Writing, 4- 6 pm, (Rain date 10/12);
- 11/1-Photo Selection, 5-8 pm; 12/6 or 12/7 – Attend one of these writing workshops, 5-7 pm;
- 1/10/12 or 1/11/12 – Attend one of these photo framing sessions, 5-7 pm.
LIMITED REGISTRATION (25 Students).

The Literary Horse:
When Legends Come to Life Exhibition
Tuesday, August 30 through Thursday, September 29
Enjoy an exhibition of photographs by Vanessa Smith of horses and riders, paired with quotations from world-famous books, highlighting those published before 1923. Ms. Smith teaches equine photography and creative writing for horse lovers. The exhibition has been organized specifically to tour schools and libraries. Exhibit runs through Thursday, September 29.

The Structure of Social Instruction and Supporting Friendships:
Part I – Social Stories & Video Social Stories
Tuesday, November 30 , 10 am-12:30 pm
This is a year-long instructional seminars and workshops series hosted by Michael Weiss, Ph.D., Consulting Developmental Psychologist, Adjunct Professor at Fairfield University and Director of Applied Developmental Analysis, LLC. Series addresses the needs of children with special needs — from AD/HD and learning disabilities to Asperger’s Syndrome and autism spectrum disorder — focusing on the ‘core spheres’ of differences in communication and social interaction and narrow ranges of actions and interests. Dr. Weiss will discuss therapeutic uses of Social Stories and ‘Video Social Stories’ and offer guidelines for creating them. Visit /events for details on what to bring to make videos. Wilton and Abolition, Temperance, and Women’s Rights

Local historian, author, and former First Selectman, Bob Russell, continues his informative and entertaining recall of Wilton’s history with Wilton’s role in the three major 19th and early 20th century ’causes’ – Abolition, Temperance, and Women’s Rights – and the people who influenced them. Registration encouraged.
