Aspects of the Short Story with Bill Ziegler

Bill Ziegler will again lead his popular five-part series of short stories on November 3, 10, 17 and December 1 and 8. Participants read and discuss a variety of short stories that illustrate the characteristics of the genre and provide a basis for critical evaluation. The stories will be available at the circulation desk before the seminar begins in the fall. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is required. Registering for the first session automatically will register you for all five sessions.

Children’s Beginner Chess

Thursday, September 15 through November 10, 4-5 pm
Children in grades 1-7 are invited to join the Children’s Library Chess Club instructed by Christopher Potts. In this program, those brand new to chess will learn: the history and rules of the game; basic checkmate themes and patterns, basic strategy and tactics. Students will play games and put the lessons into practice. Program fee is $80 per student for all eight sessions (September 15, 22, October 6, 13, 20, 27, Nov. 3, and 10). There is no session on September 29. In-person registration is required, payment due at time of registration.

Wine Tasting Event Benefiting Wilton Library
Thursday, November 10, 7-8:30 pm
Sample wines from California, Spain, France, and Italy thanks to New Canaan Wine Merchants. Tasting notes and an overview add to the evening’s enjoyment, as will delicious hors d’oeuvres provided by some of Wilton’s finest restaurants. Admission limited to the first 125 people to buy tickets which can be purchased online or at the Library’s Circulation Desk. Tickets: $50 per person. Note that 10% of all sales resulting from the evening (for which free delivery is available) will benefit the Library. Perfectly timed for holiday entertaining.
