Judson Scruton leads this 4-part Spring Poetry Series exploring various poets and their writing techniques. Poetry packets will be available at the front desk before the seminar begins. Advance registration required.

Children’s Beginner Chess

Thursday, April 26 through Thursday, June 14, 4-5 pm
Children in grades 1-7 are invited to join the Children’s Library Chess Club instructed by Christopher Potts, a US Chess Federation certified tournament director and scholastic chess instructor. In this program, those brand new to chess will learn: the history and rules of the game, basic checkmate themes and patterns, and basic strategy and tactics. Time will be provided for students to play games and put the classroom lessons into practice. Program fee is $80 per student for all eight meetings, for children in grades 1-7. Registration required.

Children’s Advanced Chess

Thursday, April 26 through Thursday, June 14, 5-6 pm
Children in grades 3-7 are invited to join the Children’s Library Chess Club instructed by Christopher Potts, a US Chess Federation certified tournament director and scholastic chess instructor. In this program, more advanced students will review the basics, learn more advanced strategy and tactics, learn optimal opening and endgame play, and gain an appreciation for the vital importance of making and carrying out sound plans. Time will be provided for students to play games and put the classroom lessons into practice. Program fee is $80 per student for all eight meetings, for children in grades 3-7. Registration required.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Annuities

Thursday, April 26, 7-8:30 pm
With pensions and Social Security becoming increasingly unreliable incomes, personal investments are becoming a larger source of retirement income. One common source of investment income is through annuities. James Hawley from Nationwide will talk about the history of annuities and the three types of annuities – variable, fixed and immediate. He will complete his talk with a presentation on preparing for retirement, the risk factors involved, and how annuities address these factors by providing a lifelong income. James Hawley has been in the financial services industry for 18 years. He received his MBA from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT and his BBA from Western Connecticut State University. Jim holds Series 6, 63, and Life Insurance licenses. This talk is part of an ongoing financial seminar series organized by Wiltonian Steve Sherman – VP/PM, MSSB. Registration suggested.
