Children’s Beginner ChessThursday, April 26 through Thursday, June 14, 4-5 pm
Children in grades 1-7 are invited to join the Children’s Library Chess Club instructed by Christopher Potts, a US Chess Federation certified tournament director and scholastic chess instructor. In this program, those brand new to chess will learn: the history and rules of the game, basic checkmate themes and patterns, and basic strategy and tactics. Time will be provided for students to play games and put the classroom lessons into practice. Program fee is $80 per student for all eight meetings, for children in grades 1-7. Registration required.
Children’s Advanced ChessThursday, April 26 through Thursday, June 14, 5-6 pm

In this program, more advanced students will review the basics, learn more advanced strategy and tactics, learn optimal opening and endgame play, and gain an appreciation for the vital importance of making and carrying out sound plans. Time will be provided for students to play games and put the classroom lessons into practice. Program fee is $80 per student for all eight meetings, for children in grades 3-7. Registration required.

Saturday, April 28: 7-9 am Early Buyers with $15 admissions fee, 9 am-5 pm free to public, Sunday, April 29: noon-5 pm; Saturday and Sunday, silent auction; Monday, April 30: 10 am-5 pm books ½ price; Tuesday, May 1: 10 am-2 pm $5 per bag. Features more than 75,000 items sorted in more than 50 categories-mysteries, gardening, travel, and science fiction; gently used, new, collectible, rare books, DVDs, CDs, books on tape and CDs. On Saturday, the Rotary Club of Wilton will sell hot dogs and sodas at lunch. Proceeds benefit the library.
Literary LittlesMonday, April 2 through May 21, 2:15-3 pm
For independent listeners ages 4-6 years. Story time that provides children with experiences that enrich early literacy with stories, short films, songs and crafts. No registration. Program runs for 8 weeks.
