Forty-five talented teens performed, sang, danced, played music, or did the artwork/photography for Poetry in Motion: Tell Us What You Know. Watch a video from the March 24, 2012 performance which took place in Wilton Library’s Brubeck Room.

Children’s Beginner Chess

Thursday, April 26 through Thursday, June 14, 4-5 pm
Children in grades 1-7 are invited to join the Children’s Library Chess Club instructed by Christopher Potts, a US Chess Federation certified tournament director and scholastic chess instructor. In this program, those brand new to chess will learn: the history and rules of the game, basic checkmate themes and patterns, and basic strategy and tactics. Time will be provided for students to play games and put the classroom lessons into practice. Program fee is $80 per student for all eight meetings, for children in grades 1-7. Registration required.

Children’s Advanced Chess

Thursday, April 26 through Thursday, June 14, 5-6 pm
Children in grades 3-7 are invited to join the Children’s Library Chess Club instructed by Christopher Potts, a US Chess Federation certified tournament director and scholastic chess instructor. In this program, more advanced students will review the basics, learn more advanced strategy and tactics, learn optimal opening and endgame play, and gain an appreciation for the vital importance of making and carrying out sound plans. Time will be provided for students to play games and put the classroom lessons into practice. Program fee is $80 per student for all eight meetings, for children in grades 3-7. Registration required.

Books for Babies

Wednesday, April 4 through May 23, 10:15 am-10:45 am
We will sing and play and enjoy gentle stories geared for babies under 12 months old. This is an excellent forum to meet other new parents in the area. Program runs 8 weeks. No registration. Caregivers must be present.

Wonderful Ones and Twos with Caregivers

Wednesday, April 4 through Wednesday, May 23, 11-11:30 am
This program is a sharing time for 1 and 2 year olds and their caregivers. The emphasis is on books, with some songs and puzzles. Program runs 8 weeks. No registration.

Lego® Club for Littles

Wednesday, May 2, 9, 16 & 23, 4-5 pm
Kids in grades K-2 will learn about the theme through stories and non-fiction books and then create a Lego masterpiece from the library’s Lego collection. There are 20 spots available for this program on a first come first serve basis. Tickets will be passed out at the Children’s reference desk starting at 3:45pm the day of the program. This program runs for 4 sessions- May 2, 9, 16, 23. Sponsored by the Coyle Family Young Readers Fund.

Opera’s Most Romantic Arias and Duets-Part I-Massenet and Puccini

Wednesday, May 2 , 7-8:30 pm
Dave Shafer, a self-professed opera nut and teacher at Lifetime Learners, presents this 3-part series on Opera. Part I covers the passion in Massenet’s operas with video excerpts from Werther and then Manon, featuring Jonas Kaufmann and Renee Fleming respectively. The program shifts to Puccini who wrote Manon Lescaut with the same plot, but different music. The two operas are then compared in one key scene with Placido Domingo and Kiri Te Kanawa. Part II is May 9 and Part III is May 16th. Registration highly recommended. Please register for each session separately.
