Children’s Beginner Chess

Thursday, April 26 through Thursday, June 14, 4-5 pm
Children in grades 1-7 are invited to join the Children’s Library Chess Club instructed by Christopher Potts, a US Chess Federation certified tournament director and scholastic chess instructor. In this program, those brand new to chess will learn: the history and rules of the game, basic checkmate themes and patterns, and basic strategy and tactics. Time will be provided for students to play games and put the classroom lessons into practice. Program fee is $80 per student for all eight meetings, for children in grades 1-7. Registration required.

Children’s Advanced Chess

Thursday, April 26 through Thursday, June 14, 5-6 pm
Children in grades 3-7 are invited to join the Children’s Library Chess Club instructed by Christopher Potts, a US Chess Federation certified tournament director and scholastic chess instructor. In this program, more advanced students will review the basics, learn more advanced strategy and tactics, learn optimal opening and endgame play, and gain an appreciation for the vital importance of making and carrying out sound plans. Time will be provided for students to play games and put the classroom lessons into practice. Program fee is $80 per student for all eight meetings, for children in grades 3-7. Registration required.

The Five Biggest Mistakes Small Business Owners Make with Social Security

Tuesday, June 5 , 8 – 10 a.m.
Many small business owners have little idea how to optimize their social security. Topics include: does one take more or less income out of the business; should spouses be on the payroll; how to maximize spousal social security; what is the best time to utilize social security, how to integrate social security with other retirement sources. Speaker is David Ceponis, founder and owner of Ceponis Financial Group, started in Wilton.  Co-sponsored by the Wilton Chamber of Commerce and the Wilton Library. Registration begins at 7:30am, followed by a light breakfast. The cost of this event is $10 per person, payable at the door. The first 15 registrants will receive a complimentary copy of The Baby Boomer’s Guide to Social Security.

Art Adventures

Tuesday, June 5, 3 – 4 pm.
Children in grades 3-5 are invited to join in this weekly art exploration program on Tuesdays in June. Each week, we will learn about an artist or artistic movement then create our own art project inspired by it. Please note that we may get messy with our masterpieces, so please wear appropriate clothing that may get dirty. Registration required, $5 supply fee at the door. Grades 3-5. Sponsored by the Wilton Moms Club.

OverDrive Volunteers ‘Office Hours’

Saturday, June 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 , 10 am – noon.
People who want to get started with downloading e-books and audiobooks from the library to their personal devices now have a little help with Wilton Library’s Overdrive Volunteers.  Office hours are Saturdays in June, from 10 am – noon. Patrons are asked to bring their personal devices (smartphones, Kindles, Nooks, etc.) and their Wilton Library card to receive personal hands-on attention. Additional hours: Tuesdays in June, 4 – 6 pm.
