Poetry in Motion is an annual program for teens in grades 6 – 12. This year’s theme is REWIND, PAUSE, FAST FORWARD. Students are invited to submit original poems (serious or humorous; short or long) about the past, present and/or future. Approximately 35 poems will be selected for a two-performance event in March 2013 at the library. Poems will be paired with art, music and/or dance for the live performances, as well as published in a commemorative book. Submit poems to firstname.lastname@example.org by October 15, 2012. Teen Advisory Board Applications
Tuesday, Sept. 4 through Monday, Oct. 1.
Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to join the new Teen Advisory Board. TAB is a group of teens who work with Wilton Library by helping select materials for the teen collection, planning teen events, and more! Your help allows us to make the library better for you and your friends. An introductory meeting on October 1, from 4 – 5 p.m. will allow us to get to know you and start planning for the year ahead. Wilton, My Take—Teen Writing and Photography Project
Thursday, Sept. 27, 4 – 6 p.m.
Wilton, MyTake is a program for students in grades 8 – 12 who will document their “take” on the town of Wilton through writing and photography. During sessions with creative professionals and walks through the town of Wilton, students will explore the built environment. The program hopes students will come to know their community in a more meaningful way by encouraging them to think and ask questions about the “landscape” in which they live. It will help awaken their intellectual curiosity, hone their powers of detection and observation and enrich their understanding of place. The project will culminate with an exhibit in the main gallery of the library during the month of February, 2013 with an Opening Reception on Friday, Feb. 1, from 6 to 7 p.m.
The program dates are: Kickoff: Thurs. 9/27, 4 – 6 p.m.; Photo Excursions: Wed. 10/3 and 10/17, 4 – 6 p.m. (Rain dates are 10/18, 10/24 and 11/1); Writing Workshop: Wed. 11/7, 5-8 p.m.; Editing Workshop: Wed. 11/14, 5-8 p.m.; Framing Workshop: Wed. 1/6/13, 5-8 p.m.; Opening Reception: Fri. 2/1/13, 6-7 p.m. Students must have their own cameras and commit to making all of the above dates. Wilton Library’s 13th Annual Ladies’ Soirée
Wilton Library’s Ladies’ Soirée fundraiser promises lots of fun, food and friends along with wonderful items to bid on in the Silent Auction. Tickets available for purchase at $50 each. The library will close at 6 p.m. for the event.
