Welcome to Wilton Library

Events:

Kids ages 8 and up are invited to join Wilton Library’s Minecraft Computer Club. A server for Fairfield County has been set up with a virtual world where the Minecraft community in Wilton can meet and the club welcomes the enthusiasts. Please note: Minecraft is a subscription-based, online game. Players must bring their own laptop and create their own account. Handheld devices are not recommended because they run a Minecraft app that does not work with the same server. To be added to the Fairfield County server you must visit the Children’s Desk with a valid library card to be registered. Caretakers must sign in their child with staff member. If the child is not present and signed in by 10:10, the place may be given to a waitlisted child. Caretakers must remain in the building. Registration required; no fee.

At the start of World War 1, German imperial troops burn down Reverend Samuel Sayer’s mission in Africa. He is overtaken with disappointment and passes away. Shortly after his well-educated, snooty sister Rose Sayer (Katharine Hepburn) buries her brother, she must leave on the only available transport, a tired river steamboat The African Queen manned by the ill-mannered bachelor, Charlie Allnut (Humphrey Bogart). Together they embark on a long difficult journey, without any comfort. Despite opposing personalities, the two grow closer to each other and ultimately carry out a plan to take out a German warship. Bogart won an Academy Award for his performance. No charge. Registration recommended. Refreshments will be provided. This program is part of Wilton Library’s Wilton Reads 2016 Circling the Sun event. Author Talk with Paula McLain is Wednesday, June 1, from 7 – 8:30 p.m.
