Further Poetic Excursions with Judson Scruton

Thursday, Nov. 1, 8, 15 & 29, 10:30 a.m. – noon.
Judson Scruton leads this 4-part Poetry Series exploring poems with a connection to the months of November & December. Poems will be chosen from both contemporary and classical English and American poets including poems in English translation. Poetry packet will be available at the front desk one week before the series begins. Advance registration required.

Mother Goose Time

Thursday, Nov. 8, 15, 29, 1:30 – 2 p.m.
Mother Goose Time is a themed story time for children ages 1-4. Children will sing songs, listen to stories, move to music, and learn nursery rhymes. Felt boards, puppets, instruments, and props will be used.

Children’s Beginner Chess

Thursday, Oct. 4 through Thursday, Nov. 29, 4 – 5 p.m.
Children in grades 1-7 will get beginner chess instruction from Christopher Potts, an instructor, tournament player and US Chess Federation certified tournament director. In this program, new players will learn: the history and rules of the game; basic checkmate themes and patterns; basic strategy and tactics. Time will be provided for students to play games and put the classroom lessons into practice. Program fee is $80 per student for all eight meetings. Please note- no class on Thursday, Nov. 22 for Thanksgiving. In-person registration is required, payment due at time of registration.

Children’s Advanced Chess

Thursday, Oct. 4 through Thursday, Nov. 29, 5 – 6 p.m.
Children in grades 1-7 will get beginner chess instruction from Christopher Potts, an instructor, tournament player and US Chess Federation certified tournament director. In this program, advanced players will: review the basics; learn more advanced strategy and tactics; learn optimal opening and endgame play; gain an appreciation for the vital importance of making and carrying out sound plans. Time will be provided for students to play games and put the classroom lessons into practice. Program fee is $80 per student for all eight meetings. Please note- no class on Thursday, Nov. 22 for Thanksgiving. In-person registration is required, payment due at time of registration.

Wilton Library’s Wine Tasting Fundraiser

Rescheduled for Thursday, November 29, 7 – 8:30 p.m.
Please join us for a delightful evening benefiting Wilton Library.  $50 per person allows you to sample wines from around the world and thanks to New Canaan Wine Merchants, you’ll learn as you sip! Tasting notes and an overview will add to the evening’s enjoyment, as will delicious hors d’oeuvres provided by some of the area’s finest restaurants and caterers chosen to complement the wines: Barcelona Sono, Bistro 7, Cactus Rose Cantina, Luca Ristorante Italiano, Luca Wine Bar, Marly’s, and Market to Table (caterer).    First 125 people to purchase tickets will be admitted. Purchase online or at Library’s Circulation Desk. Note that 10% of all sales resulting from the evening (for which free delivery is available) will benefit the Library as well.
