Holiday Book Sale

Saturday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 23 (Mondays through Thursdays, 10 – 8; Fridays 10 – 6; Saturdays, 10 – 5, Sundays 1- 5).
The library’s holiday book sale in the gallery is a seasonal delight. Bargains can be found – most of the items are new or like-new condition, making a terrific opportunity for holiday gift-giving. Items include books, unopened CDs and DVDs, children’s books and a huge assortment of art books. As items are sold, new ones appear daily, thanks to the hard-working book sale volunteers, who always seem to have an un-ending supply of tantalizing offerings. All sales support the library. Open during regular library hours through Dec. 23

ESL (English as a Second Language)

Wednesday, Sept. 19 through Wednesday, December 12, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Twice-weekly ESL classes take place on Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning Wednesday, September 19 through Wednesday, December 12 at Wilton Library given by Westport Continuing Education. (There are no classes on Monday, Oct. 8 and Wednesday, Nov. 21.) Testing and registration required (Tuesday, Sept. 11, 9:30 a.m. at Wilton Library).

Area Author Affair: Susan Schaller – JFK’s Secret Doctor

Monday, Dec. 10, 6 – 7 p.m.
JFK’s Secret Doctor tells a thrilling story of adventure and a historic medical career. Set against the grand panorama of twentieth century world events, it captures the remarkable life and spirit of climber and medical visionary Hans Kraus (1905 -1996) who was also John F. Kennedy’s back specialist. Susan Schaller (who writes as Susan E. B. Schwartz) is a freelance writer and contributes regularly to national adventure and sports magazines, including Outside, Climbing, Rock and Ice, and Runner’s World. An American Alpine Club Literary Committee member and former board member, Schwartz is a rock climber, scuba instructor, shipwreck divemaster, and marathoner. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Light refreshments are served at Area Author Affairs, held to celebrate our local authors. Registration encouraged.
