Holiday Book Sale
Saturday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 23 (Mondays through Thursdays, 10 – 8; Fridays 10 – 6; Saturdays, 10 – 5, Sundays 1- 5).
The library’s holiday book sale in the gallery is a seasonal delight. Bargains can be found – most of the items are new or like-new condition, making a terrific opportunity for holiday gift-giving. Items include books, unopened CDs and DVDs, children’s books and a huge assortment of art books. As items are sold, new ones appear daily, thanks to the hard-working book sale volunteers, who always seem to have an un-ending supply of tantalizing offerings. All sales support the library. Open during regular library hours through Dec. 23
ESL (English as a Second Language)
Wednesday, Sept. 19 through Wednesday, December 12, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Twice-weekly ESL classes take place on Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning Wednesday, September 19 through Wednesday, December 12 at Wilton Library given by Westport Continuing Education. (There are no classes on Monday, Oct. 8 and Wednesday, Nov. 21.) Testing and registration required (Tuesday, Sept. 11, 9:30 a.m. at Wilton Library).
Books for Babies
Wednesday, Dec. 5, 12 & 19 , 10:15 – 10:45 a.m.
Bring your wonderful baby to this infant friendly program at the Wilton Library. We will sing and play and enjoy gentle stories geared for babies under 12 months old. This is an excellent forum to meet other new parents in the area. Caregivers must be present.
Mother Goose Time
Wednesday, Dec. 5, 12 & 19 , 11 – 11:30 a.m.
Mother Goose Time is a themed story time for children ages 1-4. Children will sing songs, listen to stories, move to music, and learn nursery rhymes. Felt boards, puppets, instruments, and props will be used.
Wednesday, Dec. 5, 12 & 19 , 4 – 5 p.m.
Each week, children in grades 3-5 will learn about an artist or artistic movement, then create our own art project inspired by it. Please note that we may get messy with our masterpieces, so please wear appropriate clothing that may get dirty. Registration required, $5 supply fee collected at the door. Grades 3-5. Sponsored by the Coyle Family Young Readers Fund.
Gingerbread for Teens
Wednesday, Dec. 12 , 4 – 5 p.m.
Teens in grades 6-12 have gingerbread men and women just waiting to be decorated. Teens can listen to holiday tunes and have fun being creative. Registration required. Space limited. Sponsored by the John and Patricia Curran Teen Fund.
Mythology Book Club for Kids
Wednesday, Dec. 12 , 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Children in grades 3-5 will read a book on a mythological theme and discuss it in this monthly book club. Snacks will be provided and an activity or craft will be made. The book for the month of December is Akhenaten Adventure by Philip Kerr. Caregivers must remain in the building for children under 12. Registration required. Sponsored by the Sherman Family Fund.
