Welcome to Wilton Library

Events:

This program is a sharing time for 1 and 2 year-olds and their caregivers. The emphasis is on books, with some songs and toy time. No registration, no program fee.

For 3 and 4 year-olds with caregivers. By interacting with stories, singing songs and acting out finger plays and rhymes, children in this program gain pre-reading skills and learn how to participate in a group setting. No registration, no fee.

Teams of 3-4 kids will bring their imaginations and innovative skills to the chef’s table to create dishes to dazzle our judging panel. Entries will be judged on taste, creativity and presentation. Teamwork is a must! For students entering grades 6-12. Limited space. Registration required.

Children entering 3rd, 4th and 5th grades can come to Wilton Library to learn computer science and programming using Code.org’s online tutorials as well as instructor-led “unplugged” activities. In this program, students will learn problem solving and team work in a hands-on, often kinesthetic approach that makes use of physical manipulatives to model computational concepts.  Every Tuesday session will include an “unplugged” activity and an introduction to a corresponding computer coding activity.  Every Thursday session (also 4 – 4:45 p.m.), students will have an opportunity to work independently and at their own pace through various coding problems and video tutorials. See the registration link for information about Computer Science and Code.org.

Week 5, August 4: Unplugged Activity: Conditionals with Cards
Conditionals are statements that only run under certain conditions and this lesson demonstrates how conditionals can be used to tailor a program to specific information. Using playing cards, students will decide how teams earn points based on the card’s suit, color or value.

Supported by the Amadeo Family, registration required for each session; no fee. For children entering grades 3, 4 and 5; program runs through Aug. 4.

New this Summer! Wilton Library Readers' professional book discussion leader Susan Boyar will discuss six short stories published in The New Yorker magazine over six consecutive weeks. Each Wednesday's meeting will discuss the previous week’s story.   The story for this week is Five Arrows by Heinz Insu Fenkl. The current issue of The New Yorker is available in the Reading Room for in-library use, or download it through Zinio or OverDrive.
