Poetry in Motion—Where I Stand
Sunday, Sept. 1 through Sunday, Oct. 20.
Poetry in Motion, in its eighth year, is Wilton Library’s annual poetry program for teens in grades 7 – 12. This year’s theme is Where I Stand. This can be interpreted figuratively or literally. Students are invited to submit original poems (serious or humorous; short or long). Approximately 35 poems will be selected by a student board for a two-performance event in March 2014 at the library. Poems will be paired with art, music and/or dance for the live performances. Poems can be performed by the student poet or by someone else. Submit poems as a Word document to email@example.com by October 20, 2013. ESL (English as a Second Language)
Monday, Sept. 30 through Wednesday, Dec. 18 , 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Twice-weekly classes in English as a Second Language will begin on Monday, September 30 and will continue on Mondays and Wednesdays until December 18 at Wilton Library given by Westport Continuing Education. (Note: no class Oct. 14 or Nov. 27) Testing and registration required.
AARP Driver Safety Class
Wednesday, Oct. 2, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The AARP Driver Safety Program is designed especially for drivers age 50 and older. This single session, four hour course covers the normal changes in vision, hearing and reaction time associated with ageing and provides practical techniques on how to adjust to these changes, along with learning to operate vehicles more safely in today’s increasingly challenging driving environment. No written or driving tests; classroom only. CT residents only. Registration required. Program cost: $12 for AARP members; $14 for non-members. Bring check or cash only.
Books for Babies
Wednesday, Sept. 11 through Wednesday, Nov. 13, 10:15 – 10:45 a.m.
Bring your wonderful baby to this infant friendly program at the Wilton Library. We will sing and play and enjoy gentle stories geared for babies under 12 months old. This is an excellent forum to meet other new parents in the area. This program runs for 10 weeks. Caregivers must be present.
Wonderful Ones and Twos
Wednesday, Sept. 11 through Wednesday, Nov. 13, 11 – 11:30 a.m.
This program is a sharing time for 1 and 2 year-olds and their caregivers. The emphasis is on books, with some songs and toy time. This program runs for 10 weeks.
Wednesday, Oct. 2, 9, 16, & 23, 4 – 5 p.m.
Kids in grades K – 4 are invited to join this weekly Lego® Club. Each session will be based on a new theme such as castles, vehicles, towers and more. Children will learn about the theme through stories and non-fiction books and then create a Lego® masterpiece from the library’s Lego® collection. There are 20 spots available for this program on a first come, first served basis. Tickets will be passed out at the Children’s reference desk starting at 3:45 p.m. the day of the program.
