ESL (English as a Second Language)

Monday, Sept. 30 through Wednesday, Dec. 18 , 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Twice-weekly classes in English as a Second Language will begin on Monday, September 30 and will continue on Mondays and Wednesdays until December 18 at Wilton Library given by Westport Continuing Education. (Note: no class Oct. 14 or Nov. 27) Testing and registration required.

Stock Market Game for Teens

Monday, Sept. 30 through Monday, Dec. 9, 4 – 5:30 p.m.
Interested in how the stock market works? Join SMG (The Stock Market Game), a simulated marketplace played by teens all around the world. Working in teams of 2 or more, the teams will be given $100,000 in virtual cash and then build a portfolio, do research, evaluate stocks, trade common stocks and mutual funds, and more.  Tracey Morgan, a former Senior Trader of foreign exchange derivatives will be running this nine week program — Mondays, from 9/30-12/2.  Note: The first session will last 1½ hours. All others will be one hour.  For teens in grades 7-12.  Registration filled.

Whodunit? Book Club

Monday, Nov. 18, 4 – 4:45 p.m.
Children in grades 2 and 3 will meet and discuss mystery books as a group. The book for November is The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner.  Snacks will be provided, and we will also have fun detective activities!   Parents and guardians must remain in the Library.  Sponsored by the Steve and Alison Sherman Family Fund.

Area Author Affair: Lee DeMilo – Italian for Tourists: Mauro and Carla Bianchi’s Trip to Italy

Monday, Nov. 18 , 6 – 7 p.m.
Lee DeMilo is the author of the e-book series, Italian for Tourists: Mauro and Carla Bianchi’s Trip to Italy (with audio). Readers follow the journey of an Italian-American couple that travels to Italy for the first time. They will learn the Italian language in a written and audio format that is fun, practical, effective and useful in daily situations through a series of real life scenarios. Lee teaches Italian privately and at local schools’ adult education programs and even trains the sales force of a Fortune 500 marketing company. See registration link for more author details. Light refreshments are served at Area Author Affairs, held to celebrate our local authors. Registration encouraged.
