Artist William McCarthy creates atmospheric landscapes entirely from memory and imagination. Using thumbnail sketches to inform and guide, the oil-based images spring forth with vibrancy and color harmony to create a sense of place in time with the ever changing atmosphere. A portion of the proceeds benefits the library.
ESL (English as a Second Language)
Wednesday, Jan. 29 through Wednesday, April 28, 9:30 – 11 a.m.
Twice-weekly classes in English as a Second Language will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 29 and will continue on Mondays and Wednesdays until April 28 at Wilton Library given by Westport Continuing Education. (There will be no class the weeks of Feb. 17-21 and April 14-18) Testing and registration required.
Stock Market Game for Teens
Monday, Feb. 10 through Monday, April 7, 4 – 5:30 p.m.
Interested in how the stock market works? Join SMG (The Stock Market Game), a simulated marketplace played by teens all around the world. Working individually or in teams of two, you’ll be given $100,000 in virtual cash and then build a portfolio, do research, evaluate stocks, trade common stocks and mutual funds and more. Tracey Morgan, a former Senior Trader of foreign exchange derivatives will be running this nine week program — Mondays, from 02/10-04/07. No class on 02/17. First class meets from 4-5:30 p.m. All other classes meet from 4-5 p.m. For teens in grades 7-12. Registration required.
Whodunit? Book Club
Monday, Feb. 24, 4 – 4:45 p.m.
Children in grades 2 and 3 will meet and discuss mystery books as a group. The book for February is Chet Gecko: The Chameleon Wore Chartreuse by Bruce Hale. Snacks will be provided with fun detective activities. Parents and guardians must remain in the Library. Sponsored by the Steve and Alison Sherman Family Fund.
Weir Farm Artist-in-Residence Exhibition/Reception: Ernest Lopez
Monday, Feb. 24, 6 – 7:30 p.m.
February brings Ernest Lopez to the Weir Farm Artist-in-Residence program. As an interdisciplinary artist, Lopez works in a variety of media utilizing mass media images, commercial objects, and text to comment on aspects of relationships between individuals and society. Co-sponsored by Weir Farm Art Center and Weir Farm National Historic Site and presented by Wilton Library. Registration suggested.
