Mother Goose on the Loose

Thursday, April 10 through Thursday, May 29, 10:15 – 10:45 a.m.
Thursday, April 10 through Thursday, May 29, 11 – 11:30 a.m.
Mother Goose on the Loose is a themed story time for children ages 6 months to 2 years old. Children will sing songs, listen to stories, move to music, and learn nursery rhymes. Mother Goose on the Loose is a research-based program intended to help infants and toddlers develop early literacy skills in an active and fun environment. Felt boards, puppets, instruments, and props will be used.

Please note-in an effort to create a small, consistent group experience, this program uses a lottery system for registration. Lottery registration forms are available at the Children’s Library desk starting March 17, 2014 and must be returned by April 7, 2014. Patrons will be notified via email if they receive a spot.

Spring Poetry with Judson Scruton

Thursday, April 10, 17 & 24 & May 1, 10:30 a.m. – noon.
Judson Scruton leads this 4-part Spring Poetry Series exploring various poets and their writing techniques. Judson Scruton, M.A (The Johns Hopkins University, The Writing Seminars, specializing in poetry), has taught creative writing and literature at prep schools and universities. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of English at Fairfield University. See library’s registration link for speaker details. A Peek Into Poetry

Thursday, April 10, 4 – 5 p.m.
In recognition of April as National Poetry Month, the Children’s Library will present four programs celebrating the art and enjoyment of poetry. Children will be introduced to various forms of poetry; they will be encouraged to read poetry out loud, and to write their own poetry to share with the class, if they wish.   At the final session on Thursday, April 24th, Alan Katz, a renowned local poet, will be our guest. Parents are welcome to attend along with their children. Grades 2 through 4, registration required. Sponsored by the Coyle Family Young Readers Fund.

Author Talk: Elizabeth Strout – The Burgess Boys

Thursday, April 10, 7 – 8:30 p.m.
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Elizabeth Strout visits Wilton Library to discuss her popular book, The Burgess Boys. A New York Times bestseller and named one of the Best Books of the Year by The Washington Post, NPR and Good Housekeeping, The Burgess Boys  is a captivating story of two deeply human protagonists whose struggles and triumphs will resonate with readers long after they turn the final page. Olive Kitteridge, a novel in stories, won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize, was nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award and was a New York Times Bestseller. Elizabeth Strout’s earlier novels are Abide With Me, a national bestseller, and Amy and Isabelle, also a New York Times Bestseller. Strout has been a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award and the Orange Prize in London. Ms. Strout will be interviewed by book discussion leader Susan Boyar. A Q&A and book signing will follow the talk. Registration is highly recommended. Pre-registrants should arrive by 6:50 p.m. to be guaranteed seating; wait-listed and walk-in registrants will be admitted after 6:50 p.m. if space is available.
