Judson Scruton leads this 4-part Autumn Poetry Seminar Series exploring the poetry of islands. In keeping with Wilton Library’s focus on Cuba this fall with its Wilton Reads program, our poetry seminar will focus on Islands, both literal and metaphoric. From John Donne’s “No Man Is An Island” to Cuban-exile poet Richard Blanco’s “The Island Within,” and from Elizabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell, “Crusoe in England,” and “The Quaker Graveyard in Nantucket.” Additionally, we will discuss island related poems by Seamus Heaney, and Derek Walcott.
Judson Scruton, M.A (The Johns Hopkins University, The Writing Seminars, specializing in poetry), has taught creative writing and literature at prep schools and universities. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of English at Fairfield University.
