Ladies and gentlemen, step right up for your chance to see a whimsical, wonderful, and strange movie. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, directed by Terry Gilliam of Monty Python fame, stars acting giants Christopher Plummer, Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell. The titular Dr. Parnassus is over a thousand years old because he made a deal with the devil (played wonderfully by Tom Waits). Living life on the fringe of society, the Doctor plays the lead role in a sideshow caravan along with his daughter, a dwarf, and an earnest young actor. A deadline approaches and a hanging man is found, forming events that send the troupe into an unusual adventure. The DVD will be released on Tuesday, April 27^th.

Julie & Julia came out on DVD this week! Meryl Streep and Amy Adams bring to life the two books on which the movie is based: Julie & Julia by Julie Powell and My Life in France by Julia Child. Get ready to laugh and cry as you watch the real-life trials and tribulations of both women. Also, have snacks handy, as this movie will surely make you hungry!

Look no further than Absurdistan. Set in an imaginary village, this Russian-language film is whimsical and farcical. When the pipe that brings water to the town falls into disrepair, the men ignore the problem. The women must resort to extreme measures to motivate the men into action.

Everyone needs a light movie now and then, right? Well, we have a fun new romantic comedy coming out on DVD on September 22. Ghost of Girlfriends Past, starring Jennifer Garner and Matthew McConaughey, is a play on Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. McConaughey plays a womanizer who encounters ghosts who lead him through his romantic past, present and future. Maybe also check out Scrooged for a Dickensian double-feature!

Based on a Noel Coward play, Easy Virtue is the story of a British upper-class family and their new American family member. Jessica Biel stars as a progressive auto racing champion who goes home with her new husband to meet the in-laws. Needless to say, her personality doesn’t mesh well with the formal and formidable family. Expect light comedy and great costumes from this film which comes out on DVD on September 15th.
