Yes, Poetry in Motion Was Wonderful!
March 29th, 2009 · Comments Off · News, Programs
It’s the morning after the night before and I’m enjoying replaying the wonderful performances of Poetry in Motion in my head. Wilton’s teens had two sold out performances and they were passionate, prepared, and inspiring. Here’s the technology tie in: Never say you can’t learn new things. . . I was in charge of lighting–a new and scary experience but I learned something new! We’re never too old (or busy) to learn new skills.

I’ve been spending all my spare time with our Teen Librarian, Susan Lauricella, who for the third year has created another amazing Poetry in Motion event with our incredibly talented Wilton teens. The two performances are scheduled for tonite and tomorrow at 7:30 pm and tickets are $5. There are a few left. I hope you can join us for what will be a wonderful experience!

Public Rest Rooms

It can be a disturbing experience. . . Got to go but no relief in sight. . . One of my favorite websites is SitorSquat which will find restrooms for you along with user ratings. You can create a list of favorite restrooms, edit and add restrooms. Best of all, you can use this on your web accessible portable devices and there are apps made especially for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and Blackberry. This is a true stress reliever!

Today’s New York Times reports on a new online start-up called GlobalPost. This news site has 65 correspondents worldwide and the site has an international focus although GlobalPost describes itself “as an American news organization with a decidedly American voice.” There is a separate paid section of the site called Passport where subscribers can make suggestions for future coverage. Sometimes we just don’t have the time to attend a class but we still need to learn a new program or expand our knowledge of older programs. Two resources you might find helpful are the training centers at the Hewlett Packard and Microsoft. Some classes are given at certain times and others are available 24/7. Topics covered include the 2003 and 2007 versions of Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, Windows, Building web pages, Firewall basics and more. Both sites are worth a look!

Ever Panic After Hitting “Send”?
March 21st, 2009 · Comments Off · News, Programs, Software
Have you ever had that awful sinking feeling after hitting “Send” in email? The message was addressed to the wrong person, an attachment not attached, or you had a change of heart about what was in your message. Google has added the Undo Send feature to Gmail. You must have at least Internet Explorer 7 and be using the new version of Gmail. You have five seconds to hit the Undo Send button and you will see a message saying that the message was not sent. I would not rely on this feature as a substitute for care in preparing and sending email but it can be a lifesaver! Check out the Gmail Blog for more information.
