Our upgraded catalog lets you easily see a carousel of best sellers on the opening (portal) page! Clicking on the title or book jacket allows you to easily place a request for a title. The left side of the page also lists new books, new videos, sound recordings, large print titles, most circ’d titles, and on order items. Place your requests for what you want to enjoy next. . .

Mo Yan Wins Nobel Literature Prize

The Nobel Literature Prize has been awarded to Mo Yan, a Chinese author “who was said to be ‘overjoyed and scared’ when the Nobel organizers contacted him to say he had won the coveted award.” Read this article by Alan Cowell in The New York Times to learn more.

The Father of eBooks

I think things are finally back to normal. I’m not sure what happened to the end of summer, though. Preparing for the hurricane (buying canned goods, gas, getting a go bag ready), living with no power for a week (not as bad as it could have been), and then catching up on all the things that did not get done during that time–and now it’s September!

Someone who helped changed the world has passed away. Michael Hart, “who was widely credited with creating the first e-book when he typed the Declaration of Independence into a computer on July 4, 1971, and in so doing laid the foundations for Project Gutenberg, the oldest and largest digital library” died on Tuesday, September 6. This New York Times article by William Grimes tells how Mr. Hart paved the way for today’s popular e-books. The world can be changed–one book at a time!

Windows 7

I’ve heard good things about Windows 7 but I don’t have it on any of my computers yet. If you have recently purchased a new computer with Windows 7 or upgraded an older computer, you will want to check out David Pogue’s Windows 7: The Missing Manual! David is one of the smartest people I have ever met and his work is terrific. This is just one of the new additions to our computer books collection. Check it out!
