Amazon as Big Brother. . .

September 17th, 2009 · Comments Off · Books, News

I was disturbed to receive an email from Amazon this morning:
“We are writing to inform you that we need to refund your purchase of the book ‘One Hundred Year Of Solitude‘.  This book was added to our catalog by a third-party who we now believe did not have the rights to make the book available [...]

The Staff Suggest

June 5th, 2009 · Comments Off · Books, News

There are times when we need to take a step back and remember that something we now consider old technology was once new technology!

Library Thing: You Make My Heart Sing

April 14th, 2009 · Comments Off · Books, Websites

I sometimes find it hard to remember the titles and authors of all the great (and maybe not so great) books I’ve read. Day Off!

March 21st, 2009 · Comments Off · Books, Software

I took yesterday off but still spent some time with technology. . . I downloaded the book Matrimony from Amazon’s Kindle Store to my iPod Touch. Had some time to read while waiting at the doctor’s office for my allergy shot. The book on the Kindle App was entirely readable. Then, when I woke up early Saturday morning unable to sleep, I tried reading it in bed. Good experience and after half an hour I fell back asleep! A perfect weekend morning! Susan Boyar will be discussing Matrimony at Wilton Library Readers on Wednesday, April 8, at noon and the author of Matrimony, Joshua Henkin will be speaking at Wilton Library on Wednesday, April 29, at 7 pm. Join us at both events! Click here to register.

In my latest Costco Connection magazine, there was an article about DailyLit. This site helps people find the time to read by sending them email installments of roughly 1,000 words at a time (daily, weekdays or on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays).
