I’m still in love with my Palm Treo–but only for the calendar, contacts, and task list. They are searchable and I sync these applications with three computers. Seamlessly. I love my iPod Touch for the web searching, email, music, games, and most importantly the App Store (I just love my Kindle app!). I’ve been not so patiently waiting for the device that can do it all. The Palm Pre is due out soon (will I live so long?) and I’ve borrowed a friend’s BlackBerry to see what all that hype is about. I received an iPhone for Christmas 2007 but gave it back shortly thereafter because the calendar, contacts, and task lists were so awful for me (and there was no App Store at the time). Check out David Pogue’s Quick Take on iPhone OS 3.0 in today’s New York Times. It looks like the iPhone OS 3.0 may have all of the features I’ve been waiting for. Many manufacturers are in the process of jumping on the smartphone bandwagon so make sure you look at all the possibilities before you leap!

iPod Touch

You may remember that I received an iPhone for Christmas and, after a month of angst, decided it wasn’t for me. That was in the dark ages before the birth of the App Store. Although I still do not like the calendar, contact, and task list features on the iPhone, I began thinking that the iPod Touch (click for review) might give me just the features I liked on the the iPhone without the monthly cost.

Article from The New York Times on Yelp
March 3rd, 2009 · Comments Off · Reviews, Websites
After I posted this morning’s entry on Yelp on this blog, I sat down with a cup of coffee to read The New York Times online (I’m on vacation this week). I found this article and since information is our business, I wanted to bring it to you. The moral of the story is: It is up to us to evaluate all information we receive; this is particularly true for information obtained from the Internet. I still like the site but wanted to bring you today’s news about it.

I Yelped Today
March 3rd, 2009 · Comments Off · Reviews, Websites
When I am looking for a new restaurant, I like to check online for reviews and, more importantly, the menu. Zagat has served me well in the past with print resources but I’m disappointed in their web presence–to get a full review you must pay a subscription fee. Into that void comes Yelp, a site that works on the Zagat premise of real people reviewing restaurants. It’s free and reviewers are not anonymous as they are in Zagat. Not only does Yelp review restaurants, they also cover Arts & Entertainment, Automotive, Nightlife, Shopping and more. When you access the reviews for a particular restaurant, there is a link to their website (if they have one). This is a great site to access when you are out and about!

Got My First Digital Camera!

I have long been lamenting the fact that I have allowed the digital photography world to pass me by. Although I was very much an amateur 35mm photographer, I was always able to take my own pictures and never had to rely on anyone else to “capture the moment” for me.

How Do I Buy HDTV?
March 6th, 2008 · Comments Off · Hardware, Reviews, Websites
It’s almost time to make a decision on buying an HDTV. But, buying a new television is not as easy as it was in the past. Not only are there technical decisions to be made, there are decorating decisions to be made (do we hang it on the wall or put it on a new piece of furniture). It can also be a very expensive decision so it should be made with care. Cnet.com has a terrific section on “Everything you need to know about HDTV“, including a section on how to save your old TV from a snowy death for about $20 or less.

Today is the day that the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show opens in Las Vegas. If you can’t make it there, you should visit Cnet’s site to see the latest electronics and gadgets that may (or may not) become available to us. It’s also a great place to see the Best and Worst Technology of 2007.

iPhone Is Not Yet for Me

I have never returned a gift my husband gave me. So, it was with a great amount of anxiety and angst that I confessed to him that my new iPhone was not working for me.

iPhone and Treo

I have loved my Palm Treo since 2001. However, when I saw the new iPhone, I fell in love. I told my husband and he asked Santa to come early to our house with a shiny new iPhone for me! It is so beautiful, the screen just amazing. Then, reality set in.

Holiday Shopping

Although December has just begun, the holiday shopping season is in full swing. One of my favorite sites for technology gift ideas is www.cnet.com. Check their Holiday Gift Ideas and choose from cameras, cell phones, laptops, mp3 players, tvs, and much more. In addition to reviews, they offer product specifications and price comparisons. They are sure to have something for that hard-to-shop-for person!
