You may remember that I received an iPhone for Christmas and, after a month of angst, decided it wasn’t for me. That was in the dark ages before the birth of the App Store. Although I still do not like the calendar, contact, and task list features on the iPhone, I began thinking that the iPod Touch (click for review) might give me just the features I liked on the the iPhone without the monthly cost.
I am now the proud owner of an iPod Touch (32GB; $389.99 at Costco) and I absolutely love it! The only bad news is that I am limited to using its WiFi features only where there is an available network. The reality these days though is that WiFi coverage is becoming more and more extensive and this minor drawback has not proved to be a problem for me.
What specifically do I love about the iPod Touch? The email feature is just great. I pull my email accounts into Gmail (which I found works better than Yahoo! Mail). The screen is large enough to respond to email rather comfortably and the speed has been great.
Putting my music on the iPod is easy and the connection to You Tube can easily consume all my free time.
And, in case I don’t feel like looking out the window, I can check not only the local weather but the weather anywhere in the world and when I have a need to have heartburn all day, I track my stocks (with a 20-minute delay).
Well, I’m on vacation this week and I need to go visit the App Store!
