Here’s a sad story from ZDNet about a photographer whose Flickr account was accidentally deleted by Flickr. He lost 4,000 photos and copyright information. While this is distressing, it is important to remember that when we use online services (especially free services), we are at the mercy of the provider. (If you are paying for online services, there are safeguards–check with the provider to see what they are.) Sites can disappear, accounts can be deleted, and memories can be lost. If you have irreplaceable information, be sure to back it up on your computer or on external drives. Online services are great but it’s important to safeguard your important stuff.
