MOOC stands for “massive open online course.” MOOCs are online college courses available globally to hundreds of thousands of people at a time” and according to Alan Finder of The New York Times, they could not be simpler to use. His September 25, 2013 article describes the three major MOOCs and the offerings are very enticing. People are very interested in lifelong learning (as we see from the popularity of our author talks, literature programs, art programs, technology, and business classes) and MOOCs are an amazing way to take all kinds of courses from the privacy of one’s home (often without fees). One will not amass college credits by taking MOOCs but the love of learning will make them a worthwhile investment of time.
