Like you need more diversions on the net, but taking quizzes and playing little games might sometimes help you concentrate! Well, at least that is what you can tell your teachers in the computer lab. But sites like Sporcle have all kinds of quizzes on things like TV, geography, and how to recognize TV shows and websites by font. Or just matching up random keys on a keyboard. Warning, you could get lost in there. And sites like the BBC have fun human senses challenges to challenge what you think you know about the human body. Do not blame us if you get carpal tunnel.

Well you don’t have to, Digsby can do it for you. Digsby is an online manager of all of your IM, social networking updates, and email – consolidating the updates into one place. For example IMs are managed through one window, so more clicking all over your screen! So no more excuses to people who IM you, like “I didn’t see your window, it was buried under all of the others”. Check out the site not only to create your own, but to see the hilarious strips created by others. Wired magazine calls it “Awesome!”. This cool map service shows you minute by minute updating of the world’s largest Web-based, free content encyclopedia project – Wikipedia. Watch the map to see what webpages from what countries are being updated in almost real time. It gets addictive, and is a fun way to discover new pages you have never thought to check out, like the history of the cocoa bean, updated from Columbia and background of the band OTT from Ireland. We dare you to only watch for five minutes!
More importantly, do you even know what acumen means? Well you would if you used dictionary.com’s word of the day service which automatically emails you the word of the day, it’s meaning, and interesting facts behind it. Use it to bone up for SATs or just to expand your own vocabulary. You will be be displaying perspicacity before you know it!

But you don’t know how to have your voice heard, or want to make your writing better, check out Teen Ink. Teen Ink is a national teen magazine, book series, and website devoted entirely to teenage writing and art. Distributed through classrooms by English, Creative Writing, Journalism and Art teachers around the country, it has the largest distribution of any publication of its kind. They don’t have staff writers or artists but instead depend completely on submissions from teenagers nationwide for their content. In other words, they need your writing! Any student can submit creative writing, art and photography at no charge. Hit their website to receive one issue of Teen Ink’s print magazine completely free, and read their criteria for submission. Maybe you will be one of the 25,000+ teens Teen Ink has made into published writers!
Challenge? Lozenge? They just don’t sound right! But if you can’t find that final rhyming word to put the finishing touches on your poem, the FREE Online Rhyming Dictionary may be able to help you. It will help you find the perfect word to rhyme, using the first or last syllable, or the whole word itself. But to save you the suspense, there still isn’t a whole-word rhyme for orange. So you may just want to use the word “red” instead.
