Downloadable Audiobooks
Downloadable Audiobooks

The Wilton Library is pleased to bring you downloadable Audiobooks from NetLibrary and Recorded Books. These audiobooks are available through the Internet and can be played on any desktop computer or portable device supporting Windows Media Player Version 10. You can transfer your titles to a range of portable devices. Click here for a list of supported portable devices.

If you do not have a player, Wilton Library has a small number of players that may be checked out.

Step 1: Print out these instructions. First, go to File/Page Setup and change your left and right margins to 0.25. Change the orientation to landscape. After printing, remember to change the orientation back to portrait.

Step 2: Make sure you have Windows Media Player Version 10. If you do not have Windows Media Player or need to upgrade your version, click here.

Step 3: Connect to NetLibrary by clicking on the Audio Books icon on our website or click here. First-time users must set up a NetLibrary account. Create your NetLibrary Account by clicking on the Create a Free Account link in the upper right-hand corner of that page and filling out the account information. If you have already signed up for an account, click on Log In in the upper left-hand corner of that page.

Step 4: Search for a title by Full-Text, Keyword, Title, Author, or Subject and click on Search or click on Advanced Search for more options. Select your audiobook by clicking on Download this eAudiobook.

Step 5: Choose CD or Radio Quality.

  • CD Quality must be used if you plan to transfer the file to a portable media player. Also use this connection if you have a high-speed Internet connection.
  • Radio Quality can be used for dial-up connections and also provides smaller files with shorter download times but these files cannot be transferred to a portable media player.

Step 6: Download the file. Click on Save when the File Download dialog box opens. Select the directory where you want to save this file (e.g., My Documents/Downloads). Click Save.

Step 7: Acquire a License. The first time you play a file, you will be reconnected to NetLibrary to acquire a License. Login with your NetLibrary account information. The license will be downloaded automatically and playback will begin. Each downloaded audiobook will require its own license.

Step 8: Click here to get started.

Transfer an eAudiobook Using Windows Media Player 10.0.

Step 1: Find your CD Quality downloaded eAudiobook file on your computer and double click it to open it with Windows Media Player. Windows Media Player opens and will obtain the license to allow the eAudiobook file to play.

Step 2: You may stop playback at this point if you choose. Click the Library tab. The media Library will be displayed.

Step 3: Find your eAudiobook in the Library Playlist pane, or sort your list by selecting the Now Playing selection.

Step 4: Drag the eAudiobook title from the Contents or Details panes in your library to the Now Playing List pane to add it to the list of items to be synchronized, ensure that your portable device is connected and click the Start Sync button in the List pane. Windows Media Player will transfer the file to your portable device.

Step 5: When the transfer is complete, the status field will indicate Complete. You may now disconnect your portable device and enjoy your eAudiobook.

Transfer an eAudiobook Using Windows Media Player 11.0.

Step 1: Find your CD Quality downloaded eAudiobook file on your computer and double click it to open it with Windows Media Player. Windows Media Player opens and will obtain the license to allow the eAudiobook file to play.

Step 2: Click on the Pause button to stop playback at this point. Right click on the title of the book which will be on the right side of the screen in Windows Media Player.

Step 3: Click on Add to. If you have not done this before, click on Additional Playlists. Click on Create Playlist. Name the Playlist something like eAudiobooks. Click OK. (You only create the Playlist once. In the future, you would just select the eAudiobook Playlist.)

Step 4: Click on the SYNC tab in Windows Media Player. A Device Setup dialog box opens up. If you want to only sync the audiobook you just downloaded, click CANCEL.

Step 5: Drag the eAudiobook title over to the Sync List where it says Drag items here. Click on Start Sync. Windows Media Player will transfer the file to your portable device.

Step 6: When the transfer is complete, the status field will indicate Sync Complete. You may now disconnect your portable device and enjoy your eAudiobook.

Note: Downloaded files are active for 21 days and may be renewed once for an additional 21 days if more time is needed. After the checkout period, the license will expire.

You may check out up to 6 books at one time.

This service is NOT compatible with Apple products, including the iPod. NetLibrary is exploring options to provide this service for Apple products n the future.
