For the artist, a gestural or impulsive movement often serves as the beginning of an idea for a painting, with subsequent layers imparting balance, line, color and pattern, creating an alternate reality in the process. Wilton Library Association 7:00pm - 9:00pm Women's Day Celebration: Head over Heels in Saudi Arabia Saturday, March 9 International Women's Day Celebration: Head over Heels in Saudi Arabia with Maisah Sobaihi, 7 – 9 p.m. "Head Over Heels In Saudi Arabia" is a fun, light-hearted play that touches on a variation of topics concerning Saudi Arabia. This performance addresses many of the questions raised about Saudi Arabia with specific reference to Saudi women. By day, Dr. Maisah Sobaihi is an assistant professor at the King Abdul-Aziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and is currently Counselor at the Saudi Arabian Mission to the United Nations. She is best known, however, for her work in theatre and the arts across the kingdom, and is widely respected as a contemporary voice for women. See website for more speaker details. Silvermine Guild Arts Center 9:00am - 6:00pm Draw Until You Drop! In partnership with the Aldrich Museum, Silvermine will be participating in the annual community event, Draw On! On Saturday, March 23rd from 9am until 6pm, the School of Art will conduct DRAW UNTIL YOU DROP! This one day event is open to the public and provides an opportunity for continuous, intensive figure drawing with a model, or models, in sustained poses. Participants of all skill levels, ages 16 and up, will be able to work alongside Silvermine faculty, Guild Artists members and students to develop their artistic vision, sharpen skills and energize studio experience through drawing. Using all the studios in the School of Art, participants will have the opportunity to work with female and male models in a range of different poses, from short and athletic, to extended poses, as well as portrait study. Participants who would like to work with still life set ups will also have a variety to choose from. The fee for the day is $30 and half day is $15. Registration can be made in advance or you can register the day of the event.
