New Members Exhibition

Each year in the spring and fall, artists are selected, through a jurying process to become new members of the Silvermine Guild of Artists. This exhibit showcases the works of five new Guild Artist members inducted in the spring and fall of 2012. The new members include: Mindy Green, Shelby Head, Heather Houston, Lara Ivanovic, and Hank Paper.

GALLERY HOURS: Wednesday – Saturday: 12p.m. – 5 pm; Sunday: 1 – 5 pm.

Donald Axleroad: “Disintegration of Truth & Trust”

A new series of work created in response to current events and the contemporary issues of today's world. Through imagery and symbols, the artist explores the dissolution of American culture; a time and place where dishonesty has become the norm, and for many, innocence has been lost and the American Dream has been shattered.

Tina Rohrer: “A Commitment to Color, Movement and Geometry”

This new exhibit is a tribute, honoring the life and art of Tina Rohrer, who passed away in the summer of 2012. The selection of work, in a variety of media, expresses the artists' love of movement and color through geometric constructions.

Author Talk - Madeline Miller: The Song of Achilles

Friday, Feb. 8 Author Talk - Madeline Miller: The Song of Achilles, 7 – 8:30 p.m. Madeline Miller, author of The Song of Achilles presents a thrilling and unique retelling of the Iliad and the legend of Achilles: a tale of gods, kings, immortal fame, and the human heart. Miller has two degrees from Brown University in Latin and Ancient Greek, and has been teaching both for the past nine years. She also has a degree from Yale School of Drama, specializing in adapting classical tales to a modern audience. This debut novel is the winner of the 2012 Orange Prize, one of the United Kingdom's most prestigious literary prizes, joining among others, Ann Patchett, Zadie Smith, Barbara Kingsolver, and Téa Obreht. New Perspectives Film Series: First Position

Saturday, Feb. 9 New Perspectives Film Series: First Position, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. First Position is a 2011 documentary film following the lives of six young dancers as they pursue their passion for dancing in a quest for the Youth America Grand Prix, one of the world's most prestigious ballet competitions. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, won the Jury Prize at the San Francisco Doc Fest, and audience awards for Best Documentary at the Dallas International Film Festival and at the Portland International Film Festival, where Bess Kargman also won Best New Director. Suggested donation of $5. Refreshments served. The New Perspectives Documentary series is programmed and moderated by filmmaker, Megan Smith-Harris. A Q&A will follow the film.
