Come celebrate Flag Day with this interactive program offered by the James B. Whipple American Legion Post 86. Post 86 is generously donating an American Flag for Wilton Library’s Brubeck Room. Post 86 representatives will host a brief dedication ceremony followed by an interactive flag etiquette program. Children and adults will learn the history of the American flag, what it means to respect the flag, how to display a flag, proper disposal of a flag, and how to fold the American flag. Participants will have a chance to practice folding the flag as well as receive a small American flag to take home! Adults and children in grades 1-5. Please register in advance.

Friday, June 21 through June 28, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Come to Wilton Library and sign up for Summer Reading during regular library hours. The Summer Reading Program is now online. Patrons can use our new summer reader program, Evanced, to register and log their summer reading. Prize coupons can be printed and brought to the library for redemption. This program offers our patrons flexibility for the summer reading program. We hope that by making the program more convenient we will see more participation and enthusiasm for reading. Some highlights of an online program are: flexibility by being able to log-on whenever and wherever throughout the summer; convenience of keeping track of reading online and ability to print lists easily (teachers love to see what the kids read over the summer); attractive graphics are engaging and help encourage participation; on-demand access allows vacationing patrons to participate, too. The online program can be accessed from internet-capable computers, laptops, iPads and more. Visit the library on Friday to sign-up or learn more about it – and find out what the theme is for the summer.

Saturday, June 22, 11 – noon.
ROAR’s (Ridgefield Operation Animal Rescue) Therapy Dog Program will be bringing therapy dogs to the library for children to read to them.  The use of trained therapy dogs in reading programs can result in children who feel comfortable reading out loud, read more often, attempt more difficult books, and actually look forward to reading. Children must read independently to participate in this program.  Registration is required.

Saturday, June 15, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Children of all ages can stop by during regular library hours and make a craft to take home to Dad for Father’s Day. Made possible by the Coyle Family Young Readers Fund.

Wednesday, June 12, 2:15 – 3 p.m.
Children ages 4-6 and their caregivers will meet at Ambler Farm to enjoy theme-based stories as well as a nature walk.  Children may check books out at the farm, so make sure to bring your library card!  June is about chickens.  Registration required.  Children must be accompanied by a caregiver.

Saturday, June 8, 11 – noon.
Come and meet Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist Matt Davies. This multi-talented Wilton resident will read his new children’s book, Ben Rides On. A boisterously funny tale of a boy, a bully and a bike, Ben Rides On will be enjoyed by all ages and on all levels. Come and show your support for one of Wilton’s most talented artist/authors. Books available for purchase and signing, provided courtesy of Elm Street Books of New Canaan. Registration required.

Friday, June 7, 11 – 11:30 a.m.
Children ages 2-6 are invited to a fun performance by Robert the Guitar Guy.  Robert uses music, props, movement, and dance to entertain children and their grown-ups.  Ages 2-6 with a caregiver.  Registration recommended.  Sponsored by the Coyle Family Young Readers Fund.

Tuesday, June 11, 11 – 11:30 a.m.
Join us for teddy-bearific stories, songs and crafts.  Bring your favorite Teddy Bear (or other stuffed animal).  Juice and cookies will be served. Ages 3-5 years with parent/caregiver. Registration is required.  Made possible by the Coyle Family Young Readers Fund.

Friday, May 31, 6 – 7 p.m.
Come and see the beautiful ballet of Sleeping Beauty, brought to life by the dancers of the Wilton Conservatory of Dance. Written by the composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky in 1889, the ballet tells the story of Princess Aurora, an enchanted spell, a prince and special kiss. Children will enjoy this wonderful introduction to the world of ballet, danced by a troupe of talented local dancers. A reception follows the performance. Grades K and up with caregivers, registration required.

Wednesday, May 29, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Come meet Tommy Greenwald, author of Charlie Joe Jackson’s Guide to NOT Reading, Charlie Joe Jackson’s Guide to Extra Credit, and coming soon, Charlie Joe Jackson’s Guide to Summer Vacation. Mr. Greenwald will talk about his books and answer questions. Kids will design a book cover; winner will receive a copy of the new book. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Grades 3 and up, registration required.
