Minecraft is an online computer game unlike any other.  It is a creative game.  Worlds made out of individual blocks are generated. In these unique worlds players can build anything, mine anything, create anything, and interact with other players.  The only limit is your imagination.  A server for the Wilton Library has been set up with a virtual world where the Minecraft community in Wilton can meet. Minecraft enthusiasts are welcome to join the Minecraft Computer Club on Saturday mornings between 10- noon to discuss and play everything Minecraft in the Children’s Library.  Ages 8 and up.

Please note: Minecraft is a subscription-based, online game.  Players must bring their own laptops and create their own accounts.  Registration required.

Part 3 of a 3-part series. Children ages 3-10 and their families get to experience hands-on participation with string instruments. There will be marimba and a variety of rhythm instruments. Children will be able to play on the rhythm instruments.  Advance registration suggested.

Bill Ziegler will discuss the elements of the poetry genre. To illustrate his talking points, he will read relevant poems he and others have written. April is National Poetry Month. For independent listeners ages 4-6 years. This is a story time that provides children with experiences that enrich early literacy. Children will hear stories, watch short films, sing songs, and do a craft. This program repeats for ten weeks.

Monday, May 20, 4 – 4:45 p.m.
Kids in grades 2 and 3 are invited to join this mystery book club.  Children will have the opportunity to meet and discuss mystery books as a group. The book for May is Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh.  Snacks will be provided, along with fun detective activities.  Grades 2 and 3. Parents and guardians must be in the Library.  Sponsored by the Sherman Family Fund.

Join Wilton Library for 2 and 3-year-old story time. Children and their caregivers will sing songs, listen to stories, and enjoy playtime together while building literacy and social skills. This program runs for ten weeks.

For 3 and 4-year-olds with a caregiver. By interacting with stories, singing songs and acting out finger plays and rhymes, children in this program gain pre-reading skills and learn how to participate in a group setting. This program runs for ten weeks.

Bring a friend and join the Book Buzz conversation moderated by Lauren McLaughlin and Melissa Baker, two of Wilton Library’s knowledgeable librarians, on the third Tuesday of each month. Participants are encouraged to come and chat about their most recent favorite reads or just listen to what others recommend.  Pick up new pre-publication books when available. In April 2008, Gregg Treinish became one of the first two people to trek the length of the Andes Mountains, south of the equator, a journey that lasted nearly two years and 7,800 miles. Following the spine of the longest mountain chain in the world, he and Deia Schlosberg created a new route, oftentimes off-trail and even off-map. He sees a tremendous value in sharing the lessons learned from a people who have been living harmoniously with the land for generations. Through intimate journal entries, stunning video, and captivating slides, Gregg will bring the Wilton Library attendees along for the journey.
