Welcome to the Jungle of Books Summer Reading Program

Wednesday, June 15, 2016 - 1:00pm to Monday, September 5, 2016 - 4:00pm

Join Wilton Library this summer for our Welcome to the Jungle of Books Summer Reading Program! Children can register on Wandoo Reader, an online reading log to keep track of their reading anywhere they go as long as they have an Internet connection.  By reading and then logging in, kids will be eligible for benchmark prizes throughout the summer.  Summer Reading runs from through Sept. 5.  Thanks to our Summer Reading Sponsors: Scoops, Subway, and The Toy Chest. 

Crafty Fridays—Macramé Necklace

Children’s Garden Club

Children in grades K and up are invited to join this weekly Garden Club!  Throughout the spring, summer, and fall we will plan, plant, tend, and eat fruits and vegetables in our raised-bed garden. This is a fun activity for the whole family!  Supported by the Amadeo Family.

Kids ages 8 and up are invited to join Wilton Library’s Minecraft Computer Club. A server for Fairfield County has been set up with a virtual world where the Minecraft community in Wilton can meet and the club welcomes the enthusiasts. Please note: Minecraft is a subscription-based, online game. Players must bring their own laptop and create their own account. Handheld devices are not recommended because they run a Minecraft app that does not work with the same server. To be added to the Fairfield County server you must visit the Children’s Desk with a valid library card to be registered. Caretakers must sign in their child with staff member. If the child is not present and signed in by 10:10, the place may be given to a waitlisted child. Caretakers must remain in the building. Registration required; no fee.

Hogwarts Summer Camp

Summer is coming to an end and it's almost time to go back to school. Harry Potter is always happy to leave the Dursleys and go back to Hogwarts and this year, you can go, too! Wilton Library is hosting an all-day fundraiser for children in grades 3-5. Children will be sorted into the four houses and attend a variety of magical classes and fun activities. They will learn how to disguise themselves with magic from the Weasley Brothers' joke business, have their fortunes told by Professor Trelawney, learn about magical creatures, and much more. Lunch donated by Wilton's own Pinocchio Pizza. Advance register required in person; $55.00 per child. Accommodations will be made for children going to Meet the Teacher sessions—kids can come back and join the festivities. 

Crafty Fridays - Perler Beads

Create different crafts using Perler beads. Make coasters, key chains, a three dimensional camera-shaped box as well as other design. Use your imagination and make a new craft.  For kids ages 10-12. Registration required.

Pre-K Zumba

The Baby Signs® Program teaches caregivers and children from 6 months of age to the toddler stage signs for everyday activities so they can communicate before the child can speak fluently.  Each workshop session focuses on one everyday activity. The workshop sessions will focus on Mealtime, Bedtime, Bathtime and Getting Dressed.  The signs are learned through activities, songs, and a book.  Every participant will go home with a handout.  There will be four workshop programs.  Please register for each session separately.  Ages 6 mos. to toddlers with caregivers.  Registration required; no fee.

Cupcake Club

Let’s Make Something—Friendship Bracelets

Children are invited to join us on for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) programs which concentrate on innovative and creative activities. Come join us in making friendship bracelets. We’ll use a variety of macramé techniques using different colored embroidery floss.  Space is limited to 10 children and tickets for this program will be handed out on a first-come-first-served basis at the Children's Library Reference Desk starting at 1:45 p.m. on the day of the program. For ages 8 – 12; no experience necessary. Caregivers must remain in the building.

Come celebrate the 100th birthday of one the worlds' most beloved Children's authors, Roald Dahl! We will read from some of his books, see an excerpt from the film The BFG, and finish by making a special Dahl-riffic craft! Registration required, for children ages 4 and up. Lottery registration forms are available at the Children's Library desk starting August 25 and must be returned by September 10. Patrons will be notified via email if they receive a spot. Peace Day Celebration

The United Nations has designated September 21st as the International Day of Peace. In recognition of this day, we will be making origami cranes, a symbol of peace, and then display them all in the Children's Library. Come help us make cranes and promote the ideals of peace. This program is for children of all ages. Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult. No registration required. Supplies and instructions will also be available all week in the Children's Library for anyone who would like to stop by to make a crane to add to our display.

Writers' Workshop

Children ages 9-11 are invited to a writers' workshop to hear fun stories and then create their own. We will explore story elements and have fun with creative exercises. Registration required. This is a six part program, so when registering for this program the child will automatically be enrolled in all 6 sessions. Caretakers must remain in the building.
