Reading is Out of this World! Summer Reading Program.

Wednesday, June 27, 2018 - 10:00am to Friday, August 24, 2018 - 5:00pm

Join Wilton Library this summer for our Reading is Out of This World! Summer Reading Program. Children can register on Wandoo Reader, an online reading log to keep track of their reading anywhere they go as long as they have an internet connection. By reading, logging, and completing challenges, kids will be eligible for benchmark prizes throughout the summer.

The Reading is Out of This World! program stimulates kids' imaginations with wonderful stories and fun activities while learning about space. Drop-in story times, drop-in activities, large-group enrichment and entertainment programs and animal visits are just some of the events planned though August 24. Think of us as your free stay-at-home summer camp experience.

The summer reading program is funded by John and Susan Steitz, with STEAM programs made possible by the Amadeo Family. Reading prizes are sponsored by the following local area businesses: Beardsley Zoo, Goldenberry, Party Zoom, Scoops, Sky Zone, Subway,  and Toy Chest. Come to Wilton Library and see a program from the Connecticut Science Center. What does it take to stay protected in space? Investigate various dangers that astronauts encounter and how they overcome them. Harry Potter Camp Fundraiser

Tuesday, August 28, 2018 - 9:00am to 3:00pm

Summer is coming to an end and it's almost time to go back to school. Harry Potter is always happy to leave the Dursleys and go back to Hogwarts. This year, you can go, too! At Wilton Library, we will be hosting a fundraiser commemorating 21 years of Harry Potter. This program is for children in grades 3-5. Children will be sorted into the four houses and attend a variety of magical classes and fun activities. They will search for magical artifacts guarded by fearsome creatures; learn about the Science of Divinations from Professor Trelawney, and much more. There will also be a visit with the Head Dragon Wrangler from House Slytherin!  Lunch donated by Wilton's own Pinocchio Pizza. Advance registration required in person; $50 per child. The Baby Signs® Program teaches caregivers and children from 6 months of age to the toddler stage signs for everyday activities so they can communicate before the child can speak fluently.  Each workshop session focuses on one everyday activity. The signs are learned through activities, songs, and a book.  Every participant will go home with a handout.  There will be 6 workshop programs.  No session on Columbus Day, 10/8. ROAR's (Ridgefield Operation Animal Rescue) Therapy Dog Program will be bringing a therapy dog to be read to by children.  The use of trained therapy dogs in reading programs can result in children who feel comfortable reading out loud, read more often, attempt more difficult books, and look forward to reading. Norwalk Symphony Orchestra—(Not) Just for Kids: Time Pieces – Strings

The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra (Not) Just For Kids program is a lively, fun and interactive program designed to be educational as well as entertaining. Members of the orchestra demonstrate their instruments, play for the children, and answer questions in hour long presentations. Throughout the season presentations are made for all instrument families: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. All programs end with attendees having a chance to hold and try to play a beginning level instrument in the 'Petting Zoo.' Sign, Say, and Play

The Baby Signs® Program teaches caregivers and children from 6 months of age to the toddler stage signs for everyday activities so they can communicate before the child can speak fluently.  Each workshop session focuses on one everyday activity. The signs are learned through activities, songs, and a book.  Every participant will go home with a handout.  There will be 6 workshop programs.  No session on Columbus Day, 10/8.
