1000 Books for Kindergarten: Summer

Saturday, June 24, 2017 - 10:00am to Friday, August 25, 2017 - 6:00pm

Children who are not yet entering Kindergarten are invited to participate in our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program for the summer and beyond. During the summer, children will receive a special bonus prize for visiting the library each week. Make sure children say ‘hello’ to a Children's Librarian and sign up for Wilton Library cards in their names! Wilton Library’s Water, Wind & World Summer Reading Program Begins

Saturday, June 24, 2017 - 10:00am to Friday, August 25, 2017 - 6:00pm

Join Wilton Library this summer for our Water, Wind & World Summer Reading Program.  Children can register on Wandoo Reader, an online reading log to keep track of their reading anywhere they go as long as they have an internet connection.  By reading, logging, and completing challenges, kids will be eligible for benchmark prizes throughout the summer.  The Water, Wind & World program stimulates kids’ imaginations with wonderful stories and fun activities while learning about ecosystems, animals, and resources in the world they live in. Drop-in story times, drop-in activities, large-group enrichment and entertainment programs and animal visits are just some of the events planned though August 25.  Think of us as your free stay-at-home summer camp experience.

Most of the programs are supported by the Amadeo Family. Reading prizes are sponsored by the following local businesses: The Pastry Hideaway, Scoops, Subway and the Toy Chest.

Children in grades K and up are invited to join this weekly Garden Club! Throughout the spring and summer, we will plant, tend, and eat fruits and vegetables in our raised-bed garden. During the month of May we will meet to plan our garden and prepare for June planting. This is a fun activity for the whole family. Supported by the Amadeo Family.

Cartoon Drawing Demonstration

Friday, August 4, 2017 - 4:00pm to 4:45pm

For children of all ages and their families. Come watch charming mermaids, fairies, pirates, and spacemen come to life on a sketchbook. Everyone who attends will leave with a quick sketch made on the spot. Be sure to bring your imagination and have a fun time watching the creations. This program is being offered by high school graduate Emma Keating.  Emma is a graduating senior at Wilton High School. Next year she will be studying film at Purchase College. She creates her own animated movies by drawing thousands of individual pictures. These frames add up to make a full story. Her animated short 'Saving Me' has won several awards including: Scholastic Gold Key, Juan Castillo Best Film in Connecticut, and The New Canaan New Age Film Festival Best in Animation. No registration, no fee.

This program is taught by Ashley Li and meets Tuesday and Thursday over the course of 8/8 - 8/24. Ages 11-13. Ashley Li is a rising college sophomore who attends Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. She is studying biomedical engineering. When not studying, she mentors Baltimore middle school students in Science Olympiad and volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit dedicated to building homes for those in need. Farm to You - Llamas, Alpacas, and Sheep

Children in grades K and up are invited to meet and greet llamas, alpacas, and sheep.  Come learn about how these animals provide fleece and wool for people.  There will be a spinning demonstration so kids can see the process of turning fleece and wool into items such as sweaters and blankets.  Registration required.  Register online or call 203-762-6336.

Dinosaurs Rock!

Come to the Wilton Library for an interactive exhibit, show and fossil dig! Dinosaurs Rock will bring the prehistoric creatures here to you!  Learn some fascinating facts about life with dinosaurs. Celebrating 20 Years of Harry Potter Fundraiser

Summer is coming to an end and it's almost time to go back to school. Harry Potter is always happy to leave the Dursleys and go back to Hogwarts. This year, you can go, too! At Wilton Library, we will be hosting a fundraiser commemorating 20 years of Harry Potter. This program is for children in grades 3-5. Children will be sorted into the four houses and attend a variety of magical classes and fun activities. They will search for magical artifacts guarded by fearsome creatures; learn about the Science of Divinations from Professor Trelawney, and much more. Lunch donated by Wilton's own Pinocchio Pizza.
