The Baby Signs® Program teaches caregivers and children from 6 months of age to the toddler stage signs for everyday activities so they can communicate before the child can speak fluently. Each workshop session focuses on one everyday activity. The workshop sessions will focus on Mealtime, Bedtime, Bathtime and Getting Dressed. The signs are learned through activities, songs, and a book. Every participant will go home with a handout. There will be four workshop programs. Please register for each session separately. Everyone will participate in this interactive game to solve an absurd puzzle. There are no screens, game boards, dice or cards: only our collective minds. Afterward we will design a simple game together. No registration, no fee. For children in grades 1-5.
Calling all daughters and mothers who want to read about heroines that are smart, brave, strong and kind. In the first session we will read Roald Dahl's classic Matilda, about a very intelligent girl and the obstacles she overcomes, with a lot of humor along the way. For grades 3-5. The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra (Not) Just For Kids program is a lively, fun and interactive program designed to be educational as well as entertaining. Members of the orchestra demonstrate their instruments, play for the children, and answer questions in hour long presentations. Throughout the season Saturday presentations are made for all instrument families: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. All programs end with attendees having a chance to hold and try to play a beginning level instrument in the 'Petting Zoo.' Saturday, October 15- Start with Strings; December 10, A Joyful Noise!—Percussion; March 4, 2017 Horns a Plenty! –Brass and May 6, 2017 Winds, Soft & Sweet -- Woodwinds. No charge. ROAR's (Ridgefield Operation Animal Rescue) Therapy Dog Program will be bringing a therapy dog to be read to by children. The use of trained therapy dogs in reading programs can result in children who feel comfortable reading out loud, read more often, attempt more difficult books, and actually look forward to reading. As they improve their literacy skills, they’re not just learning how to read, they’re learning to love to read! Children must read independently to participate in this program. Can you survive the Wilton Children’s library’s Haunted Chamber? Proceed with caution through a nightmarish room filled with slimy touch buckets, creepy obstacles, and scary storytellers. Enter the Haunted Chamber if you dare any time between 2:30 and 5:30 on October 28th. Need to gather your courage before entering the Haunted Chamber? No problem! There will also be a Pumpkin Search & Find game, a jack-o-lantern felt board, and coloring sheets set up in the Children’s Library. Enter the Haunted Chamber if you dare! Walk in - no fee required.
