1000 Books for Kindergarten: Summer

Saturday, June 24, 2017 - 10:00am to Friday, August 25, 2017 - 6:00pm

Children who are not yet entering Kindergarten are invited to participate in our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program for the summer and beyond. During the summer, children will receive a special bonus prize for visiting the library each week. Make sure children say ‘hello’ to a Children's Librarian and sign up for Wilton Library cards in their names! In person registration required. 1000 Books Before Kindergarten at Wilton Library is sponsored by Tiger Tales, and Cohen and Wolf. Call the Children’s Library for details at 203-762-6336.

Wilton Library’s Water, Wind & World Summer Reading Program Begins

Saturday, June 24, 2017 - 10:00am to Friday, August 25, 2017 - 6:00pm

Join Wilton Library this summer for our Water, Wind & World Summer Reading Program.  Children can register on Wandoo Reader, an online reading log to keep track of their reading anywhere they go as long as they have an internet connection.  By reading, logging, and completing challenges, kids will be eligible for benchmark prizes throughout the summer.  The Water, Wind & World program stimulates kids’ imaginations with wonderful stories and fun activities while learning about ecosystems, animals, and resources in the world they live in. Drop-in story times, drop-in activities, large-group enrichment and entertainment programs and animal visits are just some of the events planned though August 25.  Think of us as your free stay-at-home summer camp experience.

Most of the programs are supported by the Amadeo Family. Reading prizes are sponsored by the following local businesses: The Pastry Hideaway, Scoops, Subway and the Toy Chest.

Birds of Prey

For a fascinating and educational program come to Wilton Library and see Christine Peyreigne's wonderful birds of prey. She will use the opportunity to teach children about the dangers these birds face in the wild and the things we can do to help them. Introduction to Animation for Kids

Would you like to learn how to animate? Come to the Wilton Library for a demonstration on how to use Adobe Animate to make drawings come to life. Watch how to create the beginnings of 2D animation, learn how to use a drawing tablet, and see a short film made with this program. This program is being offered by Emma Keating: Emma is a graduating senior at Wilton High School. Next year she will be studying film at Purchase College. She creates her own animated movies by drawing thousands of individual pictures. These frames add up to make a full story. Her animated short 'Saving Me' has won several awards including: Scholastic Gold Key, Juan Castillo Best Film in Connecticut, and The New Canaan New Age Film Festival Best in Animation. Ages 14 and up. Registration required.

Maritime Aquarium

A Maritime Aquarium educator will introduce students to live crabs, snails and sea stars. Children will count their legs, describe their body shapes and explain how they feel. Finally, they’ll observe how these animals move from place to place and discuss how their shape and appendages (or lack of them) relate to their movements. For Pre-K and up.
