Reading is Out of this World! Summer Reading Program.

Wednesday, June 27, 2018 - 10:00am to Friday, August 24, 2018 - 5:00pm

Join Wilton Library this summer for our Reading is Out of This World! Summer Reading Program. Children can register on Wandoo Reader, an online reading log to keep track of their reading anywhere they go as long as they have an internet connection. By reading, logging, and completing challenges, kids will be eligible for benchmark prizes throughout the summer.

The Reading is Out of This World! program stimulates kids' imaginations with wonderful stories and fun activities while learning about space. Drop-in story times, drop-in activities, large-group enrichment and entertainment programs and animal visits are just some of the events planned though August 24. Think of us as your free stay-at-home summer camp experience.

The summer reading program is funded by John and Susan Steitz, with STEAM programs made possible by the Amadeo Family. Reading prizes are sponsored by the following local area businesses: Beardsley Zoo, Goldenberry, Party Zoom, Scoops, Sky Zone, Subway,  and Toy Chest. The reading portion of the program runs from June 27 - September 3. Call for details 203-762-6336.

Summer Reading Kick-Off

Come to Wilton Library for the Summer Reading Kick-Off! Every summer, Wilton kids prove that they are the best readers in the State of Connecticut. There will be games, a bouncy house and other fun stuff! Come one, come all and sign up for Summer Reading (registration for summer reading is Pre-K through 6th grade)! No registration required for the kick-off. All ages welcome.

Children’s Garden Club

 Children in grades K and up are invited to join this weekly Garden Club. Throughout the spring and summer, we will plant, tend, and eat fruits and vegetables in our raised-bed garden. Cartoon Drawing Demonstration

Children going into grades 3 - 6 are invited to come watch charming mermaids, fairies, pirates, and spacemen come to life on a sketchbook. Everyone who attends will leave with a quick sketch made on the spot. Be sure to bring your imagination and have a fun time watching the creations. This program is being offered by Wilton High School alumni Emma Keating. Emma is going into her sophomore year at Purchase College where she is studying film. She creates her own animated movies by drawing thousands of individual pictures. These frames add up to make a full story. Her animated short “Saving Me” has won several awards including: Scholastic Gold Key Juan Castillo Best Film in Connecticut, and The New Canaan New Age Film Festival Best in Animation. Drop-in.

This week-long course in block-based coding will give younger students an exposure to coding through SCRATCH, an MIT program used by millions around the world. Students will learn how to design and animate sprites, backgrounds, and other objects, as well as receive an introduction into game design.  This program is for kids going into grades 4 - 6, and is taught by Rishabh Raniwala. Kids will be registered for ALL 5 sessions. Rishabh is a rising junior at Wilton High School, and co-captain of Wilton Library's own robotics team, Singularity Technology. Python Level I

Calling all kids aged 11-15 for a fun-filled and educational session of Python !!..... Nope, not the deadly snake but a programming language which drives all cool computer programs. Learning the Python language is kind of like learning the rules of grammar for a spoken language. This class is for kids with no programming experience. The class will be held every day from 1:00 - 2:30 during the week of July 30 - August 3. The class size will be limited to only 10 students and will be on a first come basis. The classes will be held in the computer lab so no need to bring laptops. If you are 12 or under your parent must stay in the library.  All students are expected to be on time and should be committed to attending classes every day that week. There will be homework assigned after class. Please bring a notebook, pen/pencil for taking notes. Python Level II

Monday, July 30, 2018 - 3:00pm to 4:30pm

Calling all kids aged 11 to 15, with interest in learning intermediate level Python. Kids who have already taken my beginner Python class or have some basic Python coding skills are well suited for this class.  We will start the class with a recap of basic concepts that we covered in the Python Beginner level class and then start working with some more advanced concepts in Arrays, Classes, Functions, Object Oriented Programming etc. The class will be held every day from 3:00 - 4:30 during the week of July 30 - August 3. The class size will be limited to only 10 students and will be on a first come basis. The classes will be held in the computer lab so no need to bring laptops. All students are expected to be on time and should be committed to attending classes every day that week. There will be homework assigned after class. Learning the Python language is kind of like learning the rules of grammar for a spoken language. This class is for kids with no programming experience. The class will be held every day from 1:00 - 2:30 during the week of July 30 - August 3. The class size will be limited to only 10 students and will be on a first come basis. The classes will be held in the computer lab so no need to bring laptops. If you are 12 or under your parent must stay in the library.  All students are expected to be on time and should be committed to attending classes every day that week. There will be homework assigned after class. Please bring a notebook, pen/pencil for taking notes. The class size will be limited to only 10 students and will be on a first come basis. The classes will be held in the computer lab so no need to bring laptops.
