Have you ever wanted to learn how to write in script? Perhaps you need to decipher an old family letter or the Declaration of Independence! Or, maybe you just want to create your own special signature in script or make your handmade holiday cards more awesome.  Well, now's your chance!  Join us for a Cursive Handwriting Class in which we will practice the lost art of cursive handwriting. Kids ages 8 and up are invited to join Wilton Library’s Minecraft Computer Club. A server for Fairfield County has been set up with a virtual world where the Minecraft community in Wilton can meet and the club welcomes the enthusiasts. Please note: Minecraft is a subscription-based, online game. Players must bring their own laptop and create their own account. Handheld devices are not recommended because they run a Minecraft app that does not work with the same server. To be added to the Fairfield County server you must visit the Children’s Desk with a valid library card to be registered. Caretakers must sign in their child with staff member. If the child is not present and signed in by 10:10, the place may be given to a waitlisted child. Caretakers must remain in the building. Registration required; no fee.

(Not) Just For Kids Music Program— A Joyful Noise!—Percussion

The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra (Not) Just For Kids program is a lively, fun and interactive program designed to be educational as well as entertaining.  Members of the orchestra demonstrate their instruments, play for the children, and answer questions in hour long presentations. Throughout the season Saturday presentations are made for all instrument families: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. All programs end with attendees having a chance to hold and try to play a beginning level instrument in the 'Petting Zoo.' December 10, A Joyful Noise!—Percussion; March 4, 2017 – Horns a Plenty! –Brass and May 6, 2017 – Winds, Soft & Sweet -- Woodwinds.  No charge. Registration recommended. 

Wilton Singers Holiday Sing Additional Performance

ADDITIONAL CONCERT ADDED! Already a festive Wilton holiday tradition in its 3rd year, friends and neighbors of every generation are sure to enjoy the harmonies of Wilton Singers as they perform highlights from their Holiday Feast, then join with the choir for a festive sing-along that will raise holiday spirits and warm the hearts of all who attend. ROAR's (Ridgefield Operation Animal Rescue) Therapy Dog Program will be bringing a therapy dog to be read to by children. The use of trained therapy dogs in reading programs can result in children who feel comfortable reading out loud, read more often, attempt more difficult books, and actually look forward to reading. As they improve their literacy skills, they’re not just learning how to read, they’re learning to love to read! Children must read independently to participate in this program. Children in grades 1-7 will get beginner chess instruction from Christopher Potts, an instructor, tournament player and US Chess Federation certified tournament director. In this program, new players will learn: the history and rules of the game; basic checkmate themes and patterns; basic strategy and tactics. Time will be provided for students to play games and put the classroom lessons into practice. Program fee is $80 per student for all eight meetings. Children in grades 1-7 will get instruction from Christopher Potts, an instructor, tournament player and US Chess Federation certified tournament director.  In this program, advanced players will: review the basics; learn more advanced strategy and tactics; learn optimal opening and endgame play; gain an appreciation for the vital importance of making and carrying out sound plans. Time will be provided for students to play games and put the classroom lessons into practice.  Program fee is $80 per student for all eight meetings.  In-person registration is required, payment due at time of registration. In this program, new players will learn: the history and rules of the game; basic checkmate themes and patterns; basic strategy and tactics. Time will be provided for students to play games and put the classroom lessons into practice. Program fee is $80 per student for all eight meetings.
