Calling all book lovers in grades 4-6: Come to the WINRs (Wilton Intermediate Nutmeg Readers) Circle to discuss the 2011 Nutmeg nominees. Connecticut’s Nutmeg Award encourages children to read literature selected by a panel of state librarians and choose their favorite book out of ten titles. On the second Saturday of each month the group meets for fun, food (pizza donated by Wilton Pizza) and discussion. The March book is One Handed Catch by M.J. Auch. Bring a friend, win a prize! Join the Children’s Library for a fun, informative crafts workshop with cool activities & prizes! Learn more about dragons with fun dioramas, toys, coloring pages, and much more for children ages 4 and up! From the studio that brought us Shrek, How To Train Your Dragon is set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons and is based on the book by Cressida Cowell. The action comedy tells the story of Hiccup, a Viking teenager who doesn’t exactly fit in with his tribe’s longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers. Hiccup’s world is turned upside down when he encounters a dragon that challenges he and his fellows Vikings to see the world from an entirely different point of view. Keep a Poem in Your Pocket Week, library hours throughout the week. Visit the Children’s Library during the week of April 12 and recite a poem for a prize. Kids can memorize their favorite poem or memorize the poem Keep a Poem in Your Pocket. Children in grades 1-3 need to memorize at least 4 lines of poetry and children in grades 4-6 must memorize a minimum of 8 lines of poetry. Recite your poem for a librarian and win a fantastic prize! This four hour workshop hosted by Shefali Patel, licensed and certified Speech and Language Pathologist, will focus on several key topics pertaining to children and reading comprehension. Ms. Patel will touch upon theory and the mechanics of the human brain, reading for meaning, building connections and more.
