Teen Services (Archive Page–Historical Information Only)
Our teenage population, expected to grow 91% in the next ten years, is underserved in our town. Although a Teen Center will be established in the near future, the space for teen services at the Library will complement rather than duplicate this facility. Presenting alternative spaces as well as ways to nurture different aspects of teen development, leaders of the Library and the Teen Center have collaborated on the services to be offered.
The teen services area of the Library, separated from both the adults’ and children’s sections, will have two adjacent spaces: one for academic work that includes Internet-ready computers and a homework help center; and one with big comfortable cushions for reading, listening to music or just visiting with friends.
With the help of a committee of middle school and high school students, we will create an area where teens can drop their backpacks, use the full resources of the Library, get homework help from the Teen Services Librarian, or talk with friends in their own designated space.
