Music at the library

Children will hear the beat of a not-too-distant drum when they visit the library on Saturday, Jan. 22 during the Norwalk Symphony Family Program (Not) Just for Kids from 2 - 3 p.m. This second of four sessions sponsored by The Wilton Bank gives children ages 3 - 10 and their families hands-on experiences with percussion instruments. Additional dates in the series are April 2 with strings (2 - 3 p.m.) and May 7 with brass instruments from 3 - 4 p.m. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is suggested. Sunday afternoon poetry

A Poetry Chat with Ira Joe Fisher takes place on Sunday, Jan. 23 from 2 - 3:30 p.m. CBS reporter Ira Joe Fisher shares his love of poetry, some of his works, and the works of others in his seminar that demystifies poetry. Seniors discuss Flaubert

The Senior Center Book Discussion tackles Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. The discussion will be led by William Ziegler. Adult ADD explored

On Tuesday, Jan. 25 from 7 - 8 p.m. Carl Rotenberg, M.D. leads the program, Defining and Dealing with Adult ADD. Dr. Rotenberg discusses Adult Attention-Deficit Disorder-what it is, how to recognize it, and how to treat it. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is suggested. High school students read to little kids

Wilton High School's National Honor Society members make their annual visit to the library on Saturday, Jan. 29 from 10 - noon for Big Kids Reading to Little Kids. The older kids read stories, share activities and snacks with kids in grades K - 2. Parents are welcome. The program is free of charge. Advance registration is suggested but not required. January is art month at the library

The library has a celebration of art this month. The Patrick Cooke/Bobbi Eike Mullen exhibit, "All the Difference" continues until the end of the month in the lobby and Adult Services areas. At the same time, the PTA Reflections student art exhibition is on display in the Picture Book Room for another week. On Saturday, Jan 29 through Monday, Feb. 28 a distinctive exhibition of Russian art will be on display. Tradition in Modern Times: Russian Art 1959 - 2004 features ten contemporary Russian artists who continue the artistic traditions of Russian realism from the turn of the previous century. Paintings will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library's building fund. On Sunday, Jan. 30, the opening reception for Lawrence Murphy's exhibition, "Altered Images," will take place from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Mr. Murphy displays more than fifty photographic prints through Saturday, Feb. 26. Guest lecturer Tom Greenbaum provides an enlightening seminar, Taking the Mystery out of eBay-a Primer on Buying and Selling on Tuesday, Feb. 1 from 12:30 - 2 p.m. Mr. Greenbaum provides helpful answers for people to be more successful both as buyers and sellers on the Internet auction site in this demonstration-style class.
