Poe celebration

Edgar Allan Poe is making a special appearance at the library during Edgar Allan Poe for Teens on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Kids in grades 7 - 12 will be treated to some pre-Halloween fun with a Poe impersonator who will recite some of the works of the master of macabre. Discover the library

Wilton Library Discovery Day takes place this Saturday, Oct. 22 from 11 - 2 at the library. The community is invited to the celebration of the new spaces and programs the library has to offer. From guided tours to live entertainment to a free barbeque lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers provided by Barcelona Restaurant, the library's open house is a community celebration. The construction continues through the end of the year, but now is the time for people to come in and enjoy everything that is available to them today and to see what is to come very soon. Pumpkin craft for kids

From Monday, Oct. 24 through Friday, Oct. 28, children of all ages can drop by the library during library hours and create their very own Halloween creation. Supplies will be on hand during the week in the Children's Library. There is no charge for the craft and reservations are not needed. Library hours during the week are Monday and Friday, 10 - 6, Tuesday through Thursday, 10 - 7. For more information, call 762-3950.

Ann Martin fall lecture series

Revenge: A Dish Better Served Cold is the topic for Ann Martin's 5-part Shakespearean lecture series starting Monday, Oct 24 from 10:30 to noon. Two of Shakespeare's plays will be discussed in which the theme of revenge takes center stage. The two plays, Titus Andronicus and The Merchant of Venice are available for purchase at the Circulation Desk. Additional dates for the discussions are Oct. 31, Nov. 7, 14 and 21. It's Been a Hard Day's Night and other remembrances

On Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the library, local author Bob Spitz celebrates the publishing of his book, The Beatles: The Biography. The evening includes readings, a reception and Beatles music by Bob Riccio and friends. Books will be available for purchase and signing with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library. P&Z chats it up

The Planning and Zoning Commission members and candidates meet at the library for the next Chips 'n' Chat on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. These gatherings are for the public to meet and greet the group and to ask questions. The forum is sponsored by the Wilton League of Women Voters, the Wilton Chamber of Commerce and the library. There is no charge for the program. Wine and cheese will be available.

Journey to India

The International Book Group: Literature of Other Lands has its next meeting on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. with a discussion of India. The guest speaker is Laureen Mody who will be using the short story compilation, Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri, as a starting point. Help for college students

Janet Bertoldi, Ph.D. talks to parents about Mental Health on Campus on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Bertoldi provides parents with an overview of mental health counseling services that available on most college campuses. Her discussion includes topics such as understanding the confidentiality and patient rights; a review of the symptoms of various disorders such as depression, eating disorders, self-injurious behaviors, anxiety and when to encourage a student to get help; and how to communicate with the college especially if a student has a pre-existing condition.
