The library will be showing two new children's DVDs during the turkey break on Friday, Nov. 25. At 11 a.m., the computer animated film, Robots, will be shown and at 2, kids will see Madagascar. Operation Respect film series beginsOn Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m., the documentary, "Let's Get Real" will be shown and discussed with moderator Troy Ellen Dixon. The documentary covers taunting and bullying in middle schools. Topics include racial differences, learning disabilities, sexual orientation, religious differences, sexual harassment and more. Ms. Dixon, a member of the Wilton Board of Education, has previously facilitated a discussion during the first round of Operation Respect films. Additional dates and moderators for upcoming movies in the series are: Dec. 13 with Andy Mais, director of Voluntary Action Center of Mid-Fairfield discussing "A Peacock in the Land of Penguins"; and on Jan. 17 The Reverend Mary Grace Williams, rector at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church will lead the discussion on "The Essential Blue Eyed." New parent group meets for special needsOn Wednesday, Nov. 30 from 9:30 - 11 a.m. at the library, parents are invited to attend the Special Services Parent Advisory Council Parent Coffee. This new group is being formed in conjunction with Wilton Public Schools Special Services for parents with students in grades K - 12. The informal gathering is a kick-off event for Special Services to acquaint parents with services that are available in the schools. There is no charge for the program. Flu clinic at libraryThe last of the flu clinics to be held at the library is set for Thursday, Dec. 1 from 4-7 p.m. The clinic is sponsored by Nursing and Home Care. For further details, call 834-6341 Ext. 444.
Wilton Holiday Walk activitiesThe turkey leftovers will be gone in short order which means the Wilton Holiday Walk is right around the corner on Friday, Dec. 2 from 5 - 7:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Wilton Chamber of Commerce and area businesses, the walk is an annual Wilton tradition in which shopkeepers and the library welcome people and tempt them with delicious refreshments. The library has a host of events ready for holiday strollers during the walk. The opening art reception for Nash Hyon's exhibition, called "The Elements," will feature paintings by the artist that "represent the Periodic Table." Also during the evening, the Children's Book Sale will begin on Friday night from 5 - 7 and carry over into Saturday from 10 - 4, with Santa coming on Saturday between 10 - noon. Everything old is new againThe library is continually adding to its DVD collection and some of the additions are not new at all. For example, a number of DVDs have been acquired of old television shows such as The Complete Monty Python's Flying Circus, The Twilight Zone: Collection 1, Carol Burnett Show: Let's Bump Up the Lights, Miami Vice and The O.C. for teens (not exactly an old show). In the category of older films, the library has recently acquired To Be or Not to Be, Bringing Up Baby, Stage Door, Dinner at Eight, What's New Pussycat?, The Boy with Green Hair and The Thin Man Collection. For the hit shows on HBO, the library has Curb Your Enthusiasm, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, Six Feet Under, Sex and the City, The Sopranos and Carnivale. In addition to these, the library has a range of foreign DVDs, such as Marriage Italian Style (Italian), Fear and Trembling (French), Nobody Knows (Japanese) and Turtles Can Fly (Kurdish). DVDs of feature films and premium cable channels are available for 2-nights for $1. DVDs of regular TV are no charge for 7 nights. Feature film VHS videos are $1 for 7 days and non-fiction and TV VHS videos are no charge for 7 nights.
