Wilton Reads! begins this month

Ben Van Vechten leads the first book discussion of Snow in August by Pete Hamill on Thursday, Dec. 8 from 10:30 - noon at the library. The novel is about an 11-year old Catholic boy who befriends a rabbi during post World War II Brooklyn. Themes of persecution, bullying, and discrimination are threaded beside those of love and hope, redemption and mysticism. Last year's "Wilton Reads!" - To Kill a Mockingbird - was about injustice; this year's selection is about addressing it. An evening discussion of the book will be led by Susan Boyar on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. Ms. Boyar is a popular book group leader for the Wilton Library Readers which meet on the second Wednesday of each month through May (excluding December).

A free screening of the Showtime movie will take place at the library on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. The Wilton Reads! event culminates with an author talk by Pete Hamill on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m.

All events are free of charge. Advance registration is suggested. Call 762-3950 or register online. The Wilton Reads! community-wide event is sponsored by The Wilton Bank, The Wilton Bulletin and the United Way of Norwalk and Wilton.
