Children in grades K - 3 are treated to a new program called Folklore and Fantasy, which makes its debut at the library from 2 - 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5. During the hour, library staffers Lesley Keogh and Barbara Jones will read literary tales from other countries involving fantastical characters and colorful stories. The program is a fun way for children to spend an hour at the library on a winter afternoon, giving them a chance to acquaint themselves with the rich stories. Reading for pleasure is the most important point of the hour. Additional dates for the story hour are Saturday, Feb. 19, March 5 and 19. There is no charge for the program. So many books…so little timeWhat to read is often the question on patrons' minds when they come to the library to check out materials. On Tuesday, Feb. 8 authors David and John Major share thoughts from their book, 100 One-Night Reads: A Book Lovers Guide, starting at 7 p.m. that may help people choose books that fit into their busy schedules. Sacajawea's story continuesGeorge Lowell, a knowledgeable trail guide of the Lewis & Clark expedition, continues his presentation on The True Story of Sacajawea, Part 2 on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. The compelling story was started in January and the enthusiasm of the program attendees necessitated another session. A "What if" scenario is discussedAlternative history will be discussed on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. when Susan Boyar, popular book group discussion leader explores Philip Roth's new book, The Plot Against America. This engaging story describes what the world would have been like had Charles Lindbergh become the president of the United States rather than Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1940. Men's fund-raiser at libraryThe library's first annual men's fund-raiser tees off on Friday, Feb. 11 with Guys' Night Out-Miniature Golf Among the Classics at 7:30 p.m. The event benefits the library's collection and technology funds. A 9-hole miniature golf course will be set up throughout the library, with a silent auction, gift boutique and plenty of food and drink (courtesy of the food sponsors Luca's Ristorante Italiano and Chez Lénard's gourmet hot dog cart). The event's Platinum sponsor is The Wilton Bank. Individual sponsors include Wilton Family Eye Care through Irene Rosenberg, O.D., Kathy Leeds, Hal Higby, Charles P. Flynn, Esq., Ridgefield Bank, Regency Limousine and Creeth, Richman Associates. The gift boutique is set up just in time for Valentine's Day, making it easier for the men to buy items such as chocolates by Chocolates Plus of Rye Brook, handmade bags, children's jewelry and hand-beaded scarves by Sharon Cowley, lingerie and accessories by Winged Monkey/ Lollipop Guild, flower orders taken by Stewart Flowers for Valentine's Day delivery, handmade jewelry by Courtney Kleeman and semi-precious stone jewelry offered by Karen Todero. Poetry demystifiedCBS reporter Ira Joe Fisher steps outside his TV world to bring his love of poetry to the audience at the library on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. This program was postponed from January due to the Blizzard of '05. Mr. Fisher looks at the poetry of Keats and others along with his very own. His chapbook, Remembering Rew, will be available for purchase and signing. There is no charge for the program. Kids creating valentinesAs a slight change of pace, children of all ages will be able to create valentines in Children's Services from Monday, Feb. 7 through Monday, Feb. 14. Supplies will be on-hand for kids to make their very own creations on their own time for the full week. Craft tables will be set up in Children's Services and children can come in throughout the week to make their masterpieces for their moms, dads, grandparents, sisters, brothers, dogs, cats and canaries.
