Knit one, purl two

With winter acting up again, kids in grades 7 - 12 have a chance to cover their heads (or their friends' heads) in something warm and wonderful in the Hat Knitting Workshop for Teens starting on Tuesday, Feb. 22 from 4 - 5:30 p.m. In this 3-part class, kids will learn how to create ribbing, change colors and form the stockinette stitch while working on a hat project. Teens coming to the class should already know how to cast on, create the "knit" stitch and bind-off. Additional sessions will be held on Tuesday, March 1 and March 8 from 4 - 5 p.m. In the last class, knitters will learn how to create the seam and tassel to finish the hat. The program is made possible by the John Curran Memorial Teen Fund. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is required.

Beyond borders

Grandmothers, mothers, daughters and sisters (girls in grades 9 and up) are invited to attend International Book Group: Literature of Other Lands, a 3-part series for women starting on Thursday, Feb. 24 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. The group will be reading for pleasure to learn about authors from other countries. The discussions will be lead by local residents who come from the originating countries. The first book in the series on Feb. 24 is Journey from the Land of No: A Girlhood Caught in Revolutionary Iran by Roya Hakakian. The discussion will be led by Golnar Sadeghi who is herself from Iran. Additional discussion leaders and dates are Teresa Maultz (Poland) who will be discussing Madame by Antoni Libera on March 31 and Miwako Ogasawara (Japan) on April 28 (book to be announced). Books are available for loan. Refreshments and international desserts from the featured country will be served. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is suggested. Call 762-3950 or register online.

Seminar explores success

On Friday, Feb. 25 the library and the Wilton Chamber of Commerce co-sponsor a seminar entitled Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Success presented by Michael Crystal, Ph.D. from 9:30 - 11 a.m. Dr. Crystal explores success - how to define it, how to best realize it and what one should do or not do to ensure that it lasts. The fee for the seminar is $25 for Chamber members/$30 for non-members. Advance registration is required. Call 762-3950 or register online.
